Game Notes -- 7/2

ABOUT SUNDAY: The Timber Rattlers beat the Swing 5-2 in eleven innings. Trevor Lawhorn and Alex Liddi had back-to-back two-run singles in the top of the eleventh inning to break a 1-1 tie. Justin Souza worked three innings in relief for his third win of the season.

STAYING PERFECT IN OT: The Timber Rattlers are 5-0 in extra-innings this season. They are 2-0 on the road.

TYING IT UP: Quad Cities scored a run off Kyle Parker in the bottom of the first inning. The Rattlers got a run in the top of the fourth inning when Kuo Hui Lo scored from third on a wild pitch with two outs.

OUT AT THE PLATE: Calvin Beamon kept the game tied by throwing out Luke Gorsett at the plate in the bottom of the fourth.

HELPING HANDS: Leury Bonilla also had an outfield assist yesterday. Rattler outfielders have 20 assists this season.

MAKING A SACRIFICE: Juan Beltran and Juan Diaz each had a sacrifice bunt yesterday. The Rattlers have 29 sacrifice bunts this season in 78 games. Wisconsin had 24 sacrifice bunts in 140 games during the 2006 season.

END OF THE STREAK: Diaz saw his ten-game hitting streak end with an 0-for-2 yesterday. Along with the sacrifice bunt, Diaz was hit by a pitch, drew a walk, and scored a run.

GOING TO ELEVEN: The Rattlers loaded the bases in the top of the eleventh inning with a single and two walks. Lawhorn singled into center with two outs to drive in a pair of runs. Liddi followed with another two-run single for a 5-1 lead.

TRIPLE PLAY: Souza worked three innings and became the first Rattler starter to win three straight decisions. He kept the Swing off the board in the ninth and tenth innings. Souza allowed a lead off home run in the bottom of the eleventh, but got the final three outs of the game.

GOING FOR THE SPLIT: The Rattlers are 3-4 in the first seven games of this eight-game road trip.

UP NEXT: The Rattlers return home for a brief four game series with the Cedar Rapids Kernels. Wisconsin hosts the Kernels July 3-6.


OPPOSING STARTER: Shaun Garceau was the 20th round pick of the Cardinals in the 2005 draft out of Royal Palm Beach (FL) High School. He did not pitch in 2006 due to injury. Garceau has made 18 appearances (9 starts) for the Swing this season. His last appearance was a start at Clinton on June 27. In that game, Garceau took the loss as he allowed four runs on five hits with three walks and three strikeouts over three innings. He has faced the Timber Rattlers three times as a reliever and is 2-0. In 11 innings against the Rattlers, Garceau has not allowed a run and has given up nine hits. He has struck out 15 Rattler hitters and walked one in those 11 innings.
