Last Night in the MWL

It was shutout night in the Midwest League last night. Six of the seven games ended with one of the teams not scoring.

Kane County 8, @Wisconsin 0 -- Starting close to home.

Cedar Rapids 1, @Fort Wayne 0 (6 inn.)-- Stephen outpitched Stevie in a rain-shortened game.

South Bend 1, @Dayton 0 -- The Hawks score a run in the top of the ninth inning and win despite being outhit 7-4 by the Dragons. I thought the arguments would be over when the regular umpires came back to work. Apparently not:

With special wide-angle vision by home-plate umpire Jason Alper, Bobby Mosby was called out on strikes on a low-and-away pitch to end the game with the tying run on third base, a game the Dragons lost to South Bend 1-0 Friday night.

It was the second time in two weeks Mosby was called out on a pitch he wouldn't have been able to reach had he swung, and he slammed his helmet to the ground, earning the Dragons' second ejection of the game — even though the game was over.

Lansing 5, @Beloit 0 -- Kristian Bell gave up one hit over seven innings. Another home team shut out? Couldn't happen again, right?

West Michigan 2, @Burlington 0 -- Wrong. Whitecaps score twice in the ninth to shutout the Bees.

@Clinton 1, Southwest Michigan 0 -- Ah! The LumberKings weren't shutout at home. The win in the bottom of the ninth on a, um, walk-off walk.

@Peoria 6, Quad Cities 5 -- It might have been seven shutouts in the MWL last night, but the Swing went and scored five in the eighth after being down 6-0. Good thing the Chiefs scored five in the first.
