Mariner System Report Games of 6/18

Seattle (MAJ: 34-37; 3rd AL West): Seattle topped San Francisco 5-1. Adrian Beltre homered and had a pair of RBI. Jamie Moyer pitched eight innings and gave up one run for the win. JJ Putz (WI ’00) pitched a scoreless ninth to finish off the sweep of the Giants.

Tacoma (AAA – 35-35; T-2nd PCL Pacific Northern Division): Tacoma beat Sacramento 13-5. Hunter Brown (WI ’02) homered. Adam Jones (WI ’04) and Asdrubal Cabrera (WI ’05) each had three hits and Chris Snelling (WI ’00) drove in two runs) for Tacoma. Bryan LaHair (WI '04) had a big two-run single and Brian Schweiger (WI ’06) added two hits and two RBI for the Rainiers. Tacoma scored nine runs over the last three innings for the win.

San Antonio (AA – 27-41; 4th Texas League South Division): San Antonio lost 3-2 at Midland. Wladimir Balentien (WI ’04) hit a solo homer, his twelfth of the season, for one of the Mission runs. Eric O’Flaherty worked two scoreless innings in relief, but San Antonio fell to the RockHounds and ended the first half fourteen games under .500.

Inland Empire (High-A – 38-31; 2nd California League South Division): Inland Empire lost 6-3 at Visalia. The 66ers finished the first half of the California League season ½ game behind High Desert, with one game remaining in their half. High Desert won their final nine games of the half, but it doesn’t seem clear who won the half. Inland Empire plays High Desert on Monday night. High Desert starts the second half while the 66ers wrap up the first half with the game. Sounds like a mess, but High Desert is believed to have the tie-breaker and even if the 66ers win today, they cannot win the first half. On Sunday, Inland Empire took a 3-1 lead into the bottom of the seventh inning, but the Oaks scored three runs off Tom Oldham (WI ’04) in the inning and went on to the victory. Aaron Jensen (WI ’05) gave up just one run in 5-2/3 innings for a no decision. Mike Wilson (WI ’05) had three hits and an RBI for Inland Empire.

Everett (Short Season-A; Northwest League): The AquaSox beat the Everett Merchants 15-3 in an exhibition game. Joe White was 3-for-3 with two RBI. Kuo Hui Lo and Jose Graterol had back-to-back homers for the Sox.
