Game Notes for 6/16

ABOUT LAST NIGHT: The Rattlers split a doubleheader with the Swing of the Quad Cities. Wisconsin won game one 2-1. The Swing won game two 2-1.

THE UNDISCOVERED COUNTRY: Wisconsin’s game one starter Harold Williams pitched a career high six innings for his second win of the season. Williams gave up a first inning run, walked four, and gave up just two hits.

WILD THING: Casey Craig scored the go ahead run in game one on a wild pitch by Swing starter Adam Daniels. That wild pitch was the seventeenth of the season by Daniels.

NOT A RECORDING: Rattler reliever Joe Woerman pitched a 1-2-3 seventh inning in game one for his seventh save of the season. That inning extended Woerman’s scoreless inning streak to nineteen. Since his scoreless streak began, Woerman is 1-0 with five saves, an ERA of 0.00 (obviously); opponents are hitting .052 (3-for-58), he has struck out 30 and walked seven. Also, Woerman has not allowed a hit in his last eight outings.

THE THIRD DECADE: Rattler shortstop Jeffery Dominguez had a hit in both games yesterday to become the third Rattler to reach a 10-game hitting streak. Ron Garth and Luis Valbuena are the other two Rattlers with ten game hit streaks this season. Dominguez is 12-for-39 during his current streak.

MY SACRIFICE: The Rattlers attempted a sacrifice bunt in both games yesterday. Neither was successful. As a team, the Rattlers have dropped ten sacrifice bunts this season. Quad Cities dropped a bunt in the bottom of the sixth inning of the second game of the doubleheader and got the go ahead run into scoring position. Colby Rasmus drove in the run from third after a balk moved the runner up a base to give the Swing a 2-1 lead.

SCORING DROUGHT: The Rattlers haven’t scored more than four runs in a game since a 6-2 win over the Kane County Cougars in the second game of a doubleheader at Fox Cities Stadium on June 7. In their last eight games, Wisconsin has scored just eighteen runs. The Rattler pitching staff has allowed thirty runs in the last eight games. Wisconsin is just 2-6 during this recent stretch.

OPPOSING STARTING PITCHER: Trey Hearne was a 28th round pick of the Cardinals in the 2005 draft out of Texas A&M – Corpus Christi. He was 8-1 with an ERA of 2.00 in 17 appearances (13 starts) for the Islanders. Last season, he was 4-2 with a 2.56ERA in 24 games (one start) for the New Jersey Cardinals of the New York-Penn League. He struck out 42 in 38-2/3 innings for the Cardinals. In his last start for the Swing, Hearne lost at Southwest Michigan on June 11. The Devil Rays got to him for two runs on seven hits over five innings with a pair of walks and six strikeouts at C.O. Brown Stadium. Hearne pitched 2-2/3 innings of scoreless relief against the Rattlers at Fox Cities Stadium on May 9. He struck out three and gave up no hits in that game.

EDIT: Corrected Hearne facing the Rattlers on May 9. Originally had tonight as his first appearance against the Rattlers.
