Seattle (MAJ: 32-37; 3rd AL West): Seattle beat San Francisco 5-4. Ichiro had two hits, including a home run. Felix Hernandez (WI ’03) gave up three homers, but only three other hits for his seventh win. JJ Putz (WI ’00) pitched a perfect ninth inning an ended the game by striking out Barry Bonds looking.
Tacoma (AAA – 34-34; 2nd PCL Pacific Northern Division): Tacoma lost 2-1 at Sacramento. The Rainiers led 1-0 after a Bryan LaHair (WI ’03) drove in a run in the top of the sixth inning. Cesar Jimenez (WI ’03) pitched six scoreless innings, but received a no decision. Sacramento rallied for a run in the eighth and won the game with a run in the bottom of the ninth.
San Antonio (AA – 26-40; 4th Texas League South Division): San Antonio lost 9-7 at Midland. The Missions scored seven runs in the third inning to go up 7-4, but the RockHounds rallied for the win. Gary Harris (WI ’03) and Justin Ruchti (WI ’04) each drove in a pair of runs during the big inning for San Antonio.
Inland Empire (High-A – 37-30; 1st California League South Division): Inland Empire lost 8-5 at Visalia. The 66ers tied the game with two in the eighth and one in the ninth. But, former Southwest Michigan Devil Ray Reid Brignac hit a three run homer off Ryan Rowland-Smith (WI ’03) in the bottom of the ninth. Yung Chi Chen (WI ’05) homered and had one other hit to move his average to .335. Inland Empire did not help their cause by committing six errors. The 66ers’ lead in the South Division is down to ½ game over High Desert. The Mavericks won their seventh straight game last night.
