Mariner System Report (Games of 6/17)

Seattle (MAJ: 33-37; 3rd AL West): Seattle beat San Francisco 8-1. Gil Meche (WI ’98) pitched a complete game, allowed five hits, and struck out seven for his seventh win of the year. Former Appleton Fox Raul Ibanez, Richie Sexson, and Jeremy Reed all homered for the Mariners.

Tacoma (AAA – 34-35; 3rd PCL Pacific Northern Division): Tacoma lost 11-1 at Sacramento. Asdrubal Cabrera (WI ’05) drove in the only run for the Rainiers. Rich Dorman (WI ’03) gave up five runs on seven hits and four walks for the loss.

San Antonio (AA – 27-40; 4th Texas League South Division): San Antonio beat Midland 6-4 in thirteen innings. Wladimir Balentien (WI ’04) homered in the thirteenth to break a 4-4 tie. Eric Monzon homered in the top of the ninth inning to tie the game. Mark Lowe (WI ’05) and Craig James (WI ’05) each worked scoreless stints out of the Mission bullpen. Lowe worked 3-2/3 innings allowing just three hits. James got the win with three hitless, shutout innings with three strikeouts.

Inland Empire (High-A – 38-30; 1st California League South Division): Inland Empire beat Visalia 4-3. Yung Chi Chen (WI ’05) broke a 3-3 tie with an RBI grounder in the top of the seventh inning. Mike Wilson (WI ’05) homered, his eighth of the year, in the first inning Inland Empire. Mumba Rivera (WI ’05) got the win with 2-1/3 innings of scoreless work out of the 66er bullpen. Inland Empire remained ½ game in front of High Desert for the South Division First Half Championship. The Mavericks won their eighth straight game last night.
