Fort Wayne's season just got a little longer

When the Timber Rattlers left Fort Wayne on August 6, the Wizards had just rallied for a 9-8 win with four runs in the bottom of the eighth inning and they were looking for a boost in the Eastern Division playoff race from a former number one pick of the Padres.

But, the Wizards are in the midst of an eight-game losing streak and they just got more bad news.

Former top pick faces arm surgery
Wizard to have ‘Tommy John' operation

Matt Bush hit the high 90s on the radar gun during his Aug. 9 outing with Fort Wayne.

Unfortunately for the right-hander, that was his first – and last time on the mound for the Wizards this season.

Bush left with an elbow injury after throwing just eight pitches. It has since been revealed that the No. 1 overall pick in the 2004 draft tore a ligament in his right elbow. He will have to undergo Tommy John ligament-replacement surgery.

Bush was a number one overall pick as a shortstop in 2004 and played in Fort Wayne in that capacity in 2005 and 2006.
