ABOUT LAST NIGHT: The Rattlers lost 8-7 to the Peoria Chiefs. Peoria jumped out to a 7-1 lead and held off a late Rattler rally. Wellington Castillo hit a homer and drove in two runs for the Chiefs. The loss was Wisconsin’s third straight.
WALKING AWAY: There were a combined 18 walks last night. Both teams issued nine walks. Marco Carrillo, the winning pitcher for Peoria, walked five over six innings. Rattler starter Kyle Parker walked four. Wisconsin reliever Keith Renaud walked four, including two with the bases loaded in the top of the fourth. Peoria reliever Jose Ceda walked the first four Wisconsin hitters he faced in the bottom of the seventh and forced in a run.
EARLY LEAD: The Chiefs had a 1-0 lead after the first inning and added four unearned runs in the top of the second to go up 5-0. All four of the runs were scored after there were two outs and none on base. Parker walked the eighth and ninth hitters in the order and Ryne Malone reached on an error to let in a run. Darwin Barney followed with an RBI single. A throwing error by Parke let in another run. An RBI single by Jim Adduci capped the inning.
QUICK EXIT: Last night was the second straight start in which Parker has lasted only three innings.
LABORING: Carrillo threw over 110 pitches in six innings, but picked up the win. He struck out three and gave up seven hits.
GOING DEEP: Leury Bonilla hit a three run homer in the bottom of the fourth inning to get the Rattlers to within 7-4. The long ball was Bonilla’s third of the season and his second at Time Warner Cable Field. Bonilla drove in four of Wisconsin’s seven runs last night.
CATCHING THEM: Wisconsin catcher Juan Beltran threw out one of two would-be base stealers last night. Beltran is 34-72 (.472) in throwing out attempted base stealers this season.
SO CLOSE: In the last three Rattler losses, Wisconsin has had the winning run at the plate in their final at bat.
PEORIA STARTER: Chris Siegfried was selected by the Cubs in the 11th round of the 2007 draft out of the University of Portland. Siegfried was 1-2 with a 5.20 ERA in 21 appearances (2 starts) for the Pilots in his final college season. He began his professional career with the Boise Hawks of the Northwest League and went 0-1 with four saves and a 2.35ERA in fourteen relief appearances. He joined the Chiefs in late July and is 1-0 in six relief appearances. This is his first appearance against the Timber Rattlers and his first start as a professional. Siegfried faced the Everett AquaSox, Seattle’s Northwest League affiliate, four times as a member of the Hawks. He allowed seven runs (one earned) over 7-2/3 innings and had a save in those four appearances. In his last outing, Siegfried allowed one run on two hits over two innings against Clinton on August 19.
