Braves: May 14-17, 1957

May 14, 1957: Big early season series with Brooklyn starts with 3-2 win. Two runs in the first and one in the sixth were enough for Bob Buhl.

May 15, 1957: Brooklyn tops Braves 3-2 in extra innings. Frank Torre gave Milwaukee a 2-0 lead with a two-run double in the sixth. Dodgers rallied with one in the seventh and one in the eighth. Dodgers scored game winner in the top of tenth on a Don Zimmer homer?

May 16, 1957: Pirates win 2-1 behind Bob Friend's pitching. Eddie Matthews hit a solo homer in the bottom of the ninth inning for the only Milwaukee run.

May 17, 1957: Braves and Pirates did not play. Rained out, I think.

After the games that were played on May 17, the Braves and their 17-9 record were 1-1/2 games behind Brooklyn in the National League.

The series with Pittsburgh concludes on May 18 at County Stadium.

Scheduled starters 5/18/57:

PIT: Vern Law
MIL: Lew Burdette
