Game Notes -- 5/18

ABOUT LAST NIGHT: The Timber Rattlers defeated the Lugnuts 4-3. Lansing took a 3-2 lead with three runs in the top of the fifth inning. Kuo Hui Lo drove in the tying run with a two-out single in the bottom of the sixth. Later in the sixth, Lo scored the go ahead run on a wild pitch. Rob Harmon pitched two scoreless innings for the win. Andrew Barb got the final four outs of the game for his fifth save.

WORKING AROUND THE BBs: Four Timber Rattler pitchers combined to walk ten batters in last night’s game. That tied the season high for walks in a game issued by the Rattler pitching staff. The Lugnuts had just four hits and struck out eight times in Thursday’s game.

IT’S A STREAK: Wisconsin has won two straight home games. They won game two of the double header on Sunday, May 13 and again last night. This is the first time this season, the Rattlers have won two straight on Time Warner Cable Field at Fox Cities Stadium.

LO ON A ROLL: Lo extended his hitting streak to ten games with his RBI single in the sixth. Lo is 13-for-36 (.361) during the streak. This is the longest hitting streak of the season by a Timber Rattler. Lo also stole his eighth base of the season in the game. He is 8-for-9 in stolen bases this season.

LAST TEN: Rattler shortstop Carlos Triunfel had a pair of hits in last night’s game. In his last ten games, Triunfel is 14-for-35 (.400). He has six RBI and has scored six runs in the last ten games.

DROPPING LIKE A STONE: The Timber Rattler pitching staff has an ERA of 2.80 in their last ten games. The team ERA has fallen from 4.34 to 3.93 since May 8.

LONG ARM OF THE LAW: Catcher Juan Beltran threw out Jonathon Diaz at second base during a stolen base attempt in the seventh inning. Beltran has thrown out .390 of would be base stealers this season.


BARB 5: Rattler closer Andrew Barb is 5-for-5 in save opportunities this season.

OPPOSING STARTER: Nate Starner was signed by the Blue Jays as a non-drafted free agent after the 2006 draft out of Shippensburg University. Starner was exclusively a relief pitcer in his first professional season. He appeared in 24 games for the Pulaski Blue Jays of the Appalachian League and was 1-4 with four saves and an ERA of 3.28. He made three relief appearances for the Auburn Doubledays in the New York-Penn League at the end of the season with no record and a 3.86ERA. Starner lost three starts in a row for the Lugnuts before picking up a no decision his last time out. On May 12 at South Bend, he gave up three runs on seven hits with one walk and eleven strikeouts over six innings. South Bend scored eight runs in the eighth inning to beat the Lugnuts after Starner had left the game. This is his first appearance against the Timber Rattlers and his first appearance against an affiliate of the Seattle Mariners.
