Game Notes -- 5/20

ABOUT LAST NIGHT: Lansing jumped in front early with three first inning runs on their way to a 7-4 win over the Rattlers. Travis Snider homered and drove in four runs for the Lugnuts.

WILD THING: Tony Butler, Wisconsin’s starting pitcher last night, walked the first four batters of the game. He pitched just two innings and walked a six Lugnuts. Butler has walked 23 opponents this season. Clayton Kershaw of Great Lakes and Butler’s Timber Rattler teammate Rob Harmon are tied for the Midwest League lead in walks with 24 free passes.

PLEASE STAY: Butler pitched just two innings last night. The Rattlers have not had a starting pitcher get through the sixth inning since Nathan Adcock pitched six innings at Great Lakes on May 11. Since that game, the longest a Rattler starting pitcher has gone in a game is five innings: Anthony Varvaro (5/12) and Adcock (5/17). The Rattler bullpen has racked up 34-2/3 innings over the last eight games.

WELCOME TO THE TEAM: Reliever Drew Fiorenza made his Timber Rattler debut last night with four scoreless, hitless innings.

SNIDER-MAN: Snider has hit a home run in each of the last two games. In the first three games of the series against Wisconsin, Snider is 6-for-12 with seven RBI and five runs scored.

KEEPS GOING AND GOING AND GOING: Kuo Hui Lo singled in the bottom of the fifth inning to extend his career-high hitting streak to 12 games. Lo is 15-for-43 (.349) during the streak. This is the longest hitting streak of the season by a Timber Rattler. Lo’s hit also ended a string of ten consecutive batters retired by Dials.

GIVE THE MAN TWO MORE: Rattler lead off batter Alex Meneses drew two more walks last night. He has coaxed 10 walks this season. Despite playing in just eight games for the 2007 Rattlers, Meneses is second on the team in walks. Only Alex Liddi’s 13 walks is a higher total on the team.

SEASON LOW: The loss last night knocked the Timber Rattlers to a season low 17 games under .500 at 11-28.

LOOK AT ALL THE PEOPLE: Last night, Wisconsin set a new season high in attendance for the second game in a row. On Friday, 4,491 fans came out to Time Warner Cable Field at Fox Cities Stadium. On Saturday, the attendance was 4,545.

OPPOSING STARTER: Kyle Ginley was the 17th round pick of the Blue Jays in the 2006 draft out of St. Petersburg (FL) Junior College. He was mainly a reliever in two stops in the Toronto system last season. In eight games (one start) for Pulaski in the Appalachian League, Ginley was 1-1 with a 4.73ERA and 42 strikeouts in 26-2/3 innings. He made two appearances (one start) for Auburn in the New York-Penn League and went 1-0 while allowing no runs on five hits over ten innings. In his last start for the Lugnuts, Ginley picked up a no decision against South Bend. On May 14, Ginley went four innings and allowed three runs (two earned) on five hits with two hit batsmen and six strikeouts. This is his first appearance against the Timber Rattlers and his first appearance against an affiliate of the Seattle Mariners.
