Game Notes -- 8/8

ABOUT LAST NIGHT: The Rattlers beat the Beloit Snappers 6-1. Ricky Orta allowed one run on five hits over 6-1/3 innings with six strikeouts for his fourth win of the season. Joe Kantakevich got the final five outs for his fifth save. Gavin Dickey had a double, a triple, and a pair of RBI to pace the Rattler offense.

FAST START: The Rattlers scored three times in the first inning. Joe White singled in the first run. Gavin Dickey followed with a two run double.

THEY HAD AN ANSWER: Danny Santiesteban homered off Orta in the third inning to cut the Rattler lead to 3-1. Ron Garth hit a lead off homer in the bottom of the third to put Wisconsin back up by three runs.

GOING DEEP AGAIN: Garth has hit a home run in three straight games. The last Rattler to hit a homer in three straight games was Chris Colton in 2004. Colton homered in games on June 12, 13, and 14 of that season.

NICE DEBUT: Relief pitcher Tom Ellis made his Midwest League debut for the Timber Rattlers last night. Ellis allowed no runs on two hits over 1-1/3 innings. He entered in relief of Orta with a runner at second and one out in the sixth. Ellis got the second out of the inning, but walked the next two batters to load the bases. But, Ellis got the final out of the inning on a popup. In the seventh, he gave up a single, got a strikeout, and allowed another single before turning the game over to Kantakevich.

NAILING IT DOWN: Kantakevich stranded both runners by getting the final two outs of the eighth inning. Of 14 inherited runners this season, Kantakevich has allowed only four to cross home plate. He pitched a 1-2-3 ninth inning for his fifth save of the season.

WHITE HOT: White was 1-for-3 with and RBI last night. In his last five games, White is 10-for-20 with eleven RBI.

NEW TEAM LEADER: Alex Liddi had an RBI double in the bottom of the fifth inning. It was his 22nd double of the season and gives him the outright team lead in that category. He had been tied with Carlos Peguero at 21 doubles.

ENDING A STREAK: The win by the Rattlers ended their six-game losing streak to the Snappers.

FLAWLESS: The Rattlers did not commit an error last night. Out of their last ten games, the Rattlers have committed no errors in six.

OPPOSING STARTER: Matt Fox was a supplemental first round pick (35th overall) of the Twins in the 2004 draft out of the University of Central Florida. He appeared in eight games (five starts) for Elizabethton in the Appalachian League in 2004, but missed all of 2005 with an injury. Fox went 4-0 with two saves in 20 games (one start) for Elizabethton in 2006. Fox joined the Snappers in late May and won his first five decisions. He beat Dayton on August 2 in his last start. He held the Dragons to two runs on three hits over five innings. Fox got a no decision against the Rattlers on July 17 at Pohlman Field. He allowed two runs on five hits over five innings. The Snappers went on to win 4-3.
