The '57 Braves won 5-1 in ten innings over the New York Giants on May 1. The Giants had tied the game 1-1 with a run off Warren Spahn in the bottom of the ninth. But, Hank Aaron singled in the go ahead run. One out later, Frank Torre and Bobby Thomson hit back-to-back homers for the win.
On May 2, Milwaukee followed that up with another extra inning win, an 8-5 win at Forbes Field over the Pirates.
The Braves had a 5-2 lead going into the bottom of the ninth. But, the Pirates tied the game with an RBI single by Bill Mazeroski and a homer by John Powers off Lew Burdette.
In the top of the tenth, Danny O'Connell drove in Del Crandall with his third hit of the game. Roberto Clemente committed an error on an Aaron single to let O'Connell cross the plate. Torre doubled in the final run of the inning. Red Murff pitched a scoreless tenth for thesave.

The Braves are 11-2 and in first place in the NL after the win. Milwaukee has a two game lead on Brooklyn.
Game two of the series with the Pirates is on May 3.
