Braves: May 3, 1957

The '57 Braves won their third consecutive extra inning game with an 8-7 t inning win over the Pirates at Forbes Field.

Milwaukee was up 7-1 in this one thanks to a six-run sixth inning. Hank Aaron's three-run homer in the inning was the big hit.

But, the Pirates rallied for three runs in the seventh. Then, a two-out, two-run, pinch-hit single by Jim Pendelton off Taylor Phillips got Pittsburgh to within 7-6. Red Murff entered and gave up the tying run on a pinch-hit RBI single by Bob Skinner.

In the top of the eleventh, Aaron tripled and the next two Braves were walked to load the bases. Bobby Thomson singled in Aaron and that was all Milwaukee would get. That was all they would need.

Murff got the first two outs, but gave up a double and a walk. Warren Spahn had to come in to the game. Spahn got pinch hitter Danny Kravitz to popout for the final out.

Complete box score and play-by-play are HERE.

The win put the '57 Braves at 12-2. They are in first place in the NL and still two games up on Brooklyn.

The series in Pittsburgh ends on May 4.
