The '57 Braves lost their third straight game on May 8. The Phillies beat the Braves 2-1 in Philadelphia.
The game was scoreless until Gene Conley allowed a Chico Fernandez RBI single in the fifth. The Phillies made it 2-0 on a Bob Bowman sacrifice fly in the sixth.
Robin Roberts was the starter for the Phils and he did not allow a run until back-to-back one out doubles by Johnny Logan and Billy Bruton in the ninth inning. Del Crandall grounded out to move the tying run to third. Pinch hitter Carl Sawatski drew a walk. But, Roberts struck out Danny O'Connell to end the game. That K was the ninth of the game for Roberts.

The Braves are 13-6 after this loss. They are still in first place in the National League, but their lead over the Dodgers is just 1/2 game.
The Braves are off on May 9th, but will stay on the road. Up next is the start of a four game series in St. Louis against the Cardinals on May 10.
