ABOUT LAST NIGHT: Dayton beat the Rattlers 10-4. Wisconsin trailed 3-0, but scored four times in the bottom of the fourth to take a 4-3 lead. The Dragons scored three runs in the sixth and four more in the seventh to send the Rattlers to their fourth consecutive loss.
SECOND DECADE: Sean Watson was the winning pitcher for the Dragons. He struck out ten over six innings and allowed four runs (none earned) on for his third win of the season. Last night was the second time Watson has struck out ten batters in a game this season.
TOUGH FIELDING NIGHT: The Rattlers (6) and Dragons (4) combined to commit ten errors last night. Those errors led to a total of eight unearned runs.
ERASING THE DEFICIT: Wisconsin trailed Dayton 3-0 heading into the bottom of the fourth. They loaded the bases with no outs against Watson. But, the Dragon starter got a pair of strikeouts to keep the Rattlers off the board for a moment. Kuo Hui Lo singled to center and drove in a pair of runs. A throwing error on the play allowed the tying run to score. Carlos Triunfel followed with a single to put the Rattlers up 4-3.
HE GOES TO ELEVEN: Greg Halman stole his league leading eleventh base of the season last night. In 2006, Michael led the Rattlers in stolen bases with 22 during the entire season.
LOSING THE LEAD: Dayton retook the lead with three runs in the top of the sixth. An error was followed by a single. Juan Francisco lined a three-run homer to left off Rattler starter Nathan Adcock for a 6-4 advantage.
STRIKEOUTS ALL AROUND: Last night, Dayton pitchers struck out Rattler hitters 15 times and Wisconsin pitchers struck out Dragon hitters 10 times. The two pitching staffs have combined for 41 strikeouts in the first two games of the series.
4-17: The Rattlers have lost seventeen of their first 21 games this season. Since 2000, this is the worst start by a Rattler team. The 2004 team was 9-12 for the previous poorest beginning to the season since the year 2000.
OPPOSING STARTER: Jordan Smith was the 6th round pick of the Reds in the 2006 draft out of the Community College of Southern Nevada. He was a starter for the Billings Mustangs of the Pioneer League after signing with the Reds. He went 6-3 in fourteen starts with a 3.01 ERA for the Mustangs. The Beloit Snappers beat Smith in his most recent start for the Dragons. On April 27 at Pohlman Field, the Snappers allowed two runs (none earned) on three hits over 5-2/3 innings with one walk and six strikeouts. This is Smith’s first appearance against the Timber Rattlers and his first appearance against and affiliate of the Seattle Mariners.
