Ken Griffey hit a two-run homer in the top of the first inning off Jeff D'Amico. That lead stood until the bottom of the fourth.
That was the inning in which the Rattlers scored seven runs off Seattle starter Bob Wolcott. A two run single by Gerald Williams was the big hit in the inning.
The teams traded runs in the fifth. A wild pitch allowed another Brewer run to score in the fifth and it was a Joey Cora RBI grounder in the top of the inning and a run scoring wild pitch in the bottom of the inning for an 8-3 score.
Jay Buhner homered in the top of the sixth and Rob Ducey homered in the seventh to make it 8-5. That was it for D'Amico. But, not for the Mariners.
In the eighth, Griffey and Edgar Martinez had back-to-back doubles off Mike Fetters to pull to within 8-6.
Milwaukee got a run on a sac fly by Jeff Cirillo in the bottom of the eight. They needed that run.
Doug Jones came into the game and got the first two outs, but the got singles from Cora and Alex Rodriguez. Griffey singled back to the mound and Jones threw the ball away for an error allowing two runs to score. Jones struck out Edgar to end the game.
