Mariners: May 13, 1997

The '97 Mariners defeated the Brewers at County Stadium. Jose Mercedes actually outpitched Randy Johnson, but Mike Fetters allowed two runs in the top of the ninth and the M's snuck out of two with the win.

A David Nilsson infield single knocked in a run for Milwaukee in the bottom of the third inning for the only run off Johnson.

Mercedes gave up two hits and two walks with six strikeouts in seven shutout innings. Bob Wickman worked a scoreless eighth.

In the ninth, Alex Rodriguez and Joey Cora walked to start things. Griffey reached on a fielder's choice and stole second. Then, Fetters walked Edgar Martinez intentionally. Buhner singled in pinch runner Rich Amaral and Griffey to put the M's in front.

Norm Charlton pitched the ninth for the save.
