Mariners: May 3, 1997

The '97 Mariners got blown out by the Brewers at the Kingdome on May 3. Milwaukee gave Jeff Fassero his first loss of the season with a 17-4 pounding. The Brewers scored eight second inning runs off Fassero and Derek Lowe and just kept going.

Seattle had a 2-0 lead by scoring a pair of runs in the bottom of the first inning off Jose Mercedes. Ken Griffey and Edgar Martinez each had RBI singles.

Mercedes did not get out of the fifth inning. He left after giving up another RBI single to Martinez. Bryce Florie got the win by getting the final out of the fifth and pitching another two innings.

The Brewers go two more home runs in the game. Marc Newfield hit a two run home run in the fourth and Tim Unroe hit a grand slam in the top of the ninth off Norm Charlton.

Junior and Edgar both had three hits for Seattle, but it wasn't the M's day.

Seattle is 17-12 and only 1/2 game up on the Rangers in the AL West after the loss.

The series with Milwaukee ends on May 4.
