Braves: May 4, 1957

The '57 Braves had played (and won) three straight extra inning games heading into the final game of their series at Forbes Field against the Pirates on May 4. This game did not go extra innings, but it was very close.

Juan Pizarro was the starter for the Braves. Vern Law was on the hill for Pittsburgh. The first pitcher to crack was Pizarro. He gave up a run in the bottom of the seventh.

Bill Virdon singled. Bill Mazeroski sacrificed him to second. A single by Hank Foiles moved Virdon to third. Pizarro struck out Law for out number two. Then, Gene Freese singled in the run.

The Braves only managed two hits off Law in this game. Hank Aaron singled in the first and Johnny Logan doubled in the seventh.
