SIOUX CITY SOOS..3
FOX CITIES FOXES 8

The Foxes had 12 hits (all singles) and pushed their lead over the Soos in the Three-I League to 9.5 games!

Chuck Symeon was the winning pitcher. Bob Saverine went 3-for-5 with two runs and two RBI for the Foxes.

Fox Cities is 70-41 on the season and the Post-Crescent felt confident enough to publish their Magic Number for clinching the pennant. It was at 21.

Storm comes at exactly the right time for Foxes
The Appleton Foxes discovered Monday night that rain can be beneficial, especially if it falls at the right time.

The Foxes took a 3-1 lead into the ninth inning against Springfield as a severe thunderstorm approached.

Springfield pulled to within a run and had the bases loaded when the rains came and washed out the rest of the contest. Chalk up a 3-2 Appleton victory and a save for the weather.
We pick up the Post-Crescent story by Brian McGinnis after the Cardinals had loaded the bases:
Foxes Manager Sal Rende then summoned relief ace Dave White then summoned relief ace Dave White from the bullpen. But just as he was finishing his warm-up pitches the rain came belting* down. The game was called and Appleton's victory improved its Midwest League record to 77-41.
Tom Forrester drove in a pair of runs in the first inning with a double.

Also, the article doesn't say, but I sure hope that the umpires waited 30 minutes before calling the game.

The Foxes lead over Kenosha is 13 games in the Northern Division of the Midwest League.

*-Yes, it says belting down in the story. I know I make a lot of typos on here, but this was not mine.
