No game in South Bend tonight

Long story short:

Tonight's game between the Rattlers and South Bend Silver Hawks has been postponed due to wet grounds.

There will be a single game on Sunday at 1pm CDT.

Saturday's game will be made up as part of a doubleheader on Monday starting at 4pm CDT.

For the longer version, you have to go back to last night. Here is the South Bend Tribune game story:
Scoring runs early — something the South Bend Silver Hawks haven't been doing lately — turned out to be a problem Friday night.

South Bend batted around in the first inning and erupted for five runs against Beloit, but the Silver Hawks took too much time doing it. When a severe thunderstorm hit Coveleski Stadium, the Hawks had a 5-4 lead in the top of the fourth inning. The game never resumed.
I have been on the phone for the last 20 minutes getting the details. Well, five minutes getting the details...15 minutes writing the post.

That severe thunderstorm hit and the grounds crew tried to get the tarp on the field, but the wind was whipping the tarp -- and the people pulling the tarp -- around to the point that they could not get the tarp all the way on the field.  It sounded like they wanted to get the trap on much, much earlier, but the band played on.

Add to that already drenched field another storm squall that rolled through just after the Timber Rattlers pulled into the hotel around 2:30am last night and you have...well, I have someone on staff here to take care of announcements like this.....

I'm Fairfax, the field conditions ferret!  I am letting you know that the field is unplayable for today. No game today.  No game today.

Sunday's game has been PPD

Howdy! My name is Perry, the Postponement Penguin. Mehring got the idea to hire me because if bad news is related by something that is seen as cute and adorable -- like he would freakin' know - it might not seem that bad.

So.....

Sunday's game with Beloit has been rained out. It has been postponed to Friday, May 14 and will be played as part of a doubleheader starting at 5:05pm. If you would like more information, like the rain out ticket policy and other fun facts, click here.

Drat and Blast!

Plans of all great leaders run afoul of meterological conditions from time to time. General Howe at Brooklyn Heights. Napoleon and his invasion of Russia. Those blasted hippies at Woodstock probably weren't expecting Farmer Yasgur's fields to turn into a mudpit either.

So, it is with tonight's game in Grand Chute...Or as the French say Grandiose Glissière.

The game scheduled between the Wisconsin nine and the Chiefs of Peoria has been put off due to this wretched moisture. Also, the temperatures are so chilly filming for that saccharine overload of a movie called March of the Penguins would have been called off as well.

I'm told that the new plan is to have a single match on Wednesday. And the double dip...can I say that? I'm not on FOX right now, you know....The Double Dip...I really can't believe I am allowed to say that...is scheduled for Thursday at 35 past five in the post meridian.

The fat guy should be done watching reruns of Full House by that time. Perhaps I can persuade him to bring me to these games. That way I might be able to ascertain what all the hurly-burly is all about....DRAT! Ended that last sentence with a preposition. Must work on improving sentence structure.

Good Grief!

Okay, now, imagine forks of lightning and the rain is being blown sideways by a 40mph wind. That's what it is like right now at Time Warner Cable Field at Fox Cities Stadium.

The Rattlers and Snappers will try to play two games tomorrow. Game one will start at 1:05pm. The second seven inning game will follow that one.

Carl is off in a rage right now. Brick, well, let's just say that Brick wouldn't be much better right now.

This makes six home games lost to the weather already this season for the Rattlers. Here is a haiku of my own.

Rain, thunder, lightning
Why must you oppress us so
Baseball's what we want

Again? GOOD GRIEF!

Rained out again. The Rattlers and Dragons are going to try to play two seven inning games on Saturday. First game starts at 1:05pm...we hope...

The Rattlers will stay on rotation Paredes in game one, Adcock in game two and Hume on Sunday. Once there is word on the Dragons pitchers, there will be a more fully developed post on that.

Good grief! Not again!

It started raining at noon today. It isn't going to stop any time soon. Thursday's doubleheader with Clinton has been called off. The Timber Rattlers will try to start a series with the Dayton Dragons on Friday.

Hey, would someone let Snoopy in?

April 8 Game Called

It's actually snowing right now. I found an on-line image of Charlie Brown throwing a pitch from a snow-covered mound....but I don't want to put you through that.

The plan is for a doubleheader on Wednesday. That's two 7-inning games beginning at 12:05pm...weather permitting.

I'm going to check on the pitching matchups and will post that later tonight along with the matchups for the Dayton series.
