Last column of the season

The latest This Week in Timber Rattlers Baseball was posted over at SportsBubbler.com.

Opening Rhyme
The 2009 season has gone by like blur;

I really cannot believe that it is over.

No playoffs and 80 losses aren't fun;

Just remember that this is only the end of year number one.

For 2010 plans are already being made;

There's plenty to do so no trips to Dade.

We wrap up the season with seven questions that are usually asked;

Giving answers for them is a duty with which I am usually tasked.

One of those questions isn't "Why does the end of the season cast such a pall?"

I don't have that answer, but I do have the final edition of
This Week in Timber Rattlers Baseball.

TWITRB posted at the Bubbler

It's up with Bond references galore...no...not that one...Just go...and here's the rhyme:

Sometimes you think it can't get any worse;

Than ripping off Mel Allen with this opening verse.

However, time and again over the past week;

Endings for some of these games have made things look bleak.

Walked off on weird plays will do that I guess;

The end of this season is turning into a bit of a mess.

Look! There is a little ray from the Sun;

With about 2,000 fans tonight the team will draw a quarter million.

So, thank you for that and coming out to the games, y'all.

Now is the time for This Week in Timber Rattlers Baseball.

The latest at the Bubbler

The latest edition of TWITRB is up over at SportsBubbler.com. An awesome bit from The Rockford Files...well, okay, a bit based on a supporting character from The Rockford Files is included. The opening rhyme:

A look at the calendar will show that late August is here;

That means that the end of the season is very, very near.

There are 10 games to go -- barring anymore rainouts;

The playoffs are slipping way, but this is no time for pouts.

Fans turned out at the ballpark in record numbers;

There are three home games to go before the stadium slumbers.

Make your plans! The 2010 schedule has been released;

Get one. Don't fold it. Then it will be creased.

I'm going to crank up that song by The Clash that mentions Lauren Bacall;

Because now is the Time for This Week in Timber Rattlers Baseball.

Hey, Fellas! Laurennnn Baaacallllll! In a car jam!

While you are waiting...

...head over and see the majesty of Jack Soo and a different kind of writeup at the SportsBubbler for This Week in Timber Rattlers Baseball.

The Western Division playoff picture is a really big mess;

The team that wins at the end of the season could be .500 or less.

This includes your Timber Rattlers, who are currently;

Racking up wins with great alacrity.

Four in a row and seven of their last eight at last count;

Meanwhile, losses by the teams in front are starting to mount.

Attendance is way up and a record may break;

And there are plenty of chances for glory and for heartache.

The weather may be turning from summer to fall;

Who cares? It's time for This Week in Timber Rattlers Baseball.

Latest at the Bubbler

The latest edition of This Week in Timber Rattlers Baseball has been posted over at SportsBubbler.com.

The opening rhyme:

Deficits can be erased and games can be won;

It just takes hard work, some key hits, and an extra run.

There are amazing things that can be attributed to a shirt;

Especially if it makes your eyes really, really hurt.

We're not superstitious, oh no not at all;

But, please knock on wood as you read this week in Timber Rattlers Baseball.

Head over to the Bubbler

The latest This Week in Timber Rattlers Baseball is posted.

Opening rhyme:

A return home after an ugly trip seemed just what the doctor ordered;

A 1-6 record turned the seven games into a thing quite sordid.

Quad Cities was first and 1-2 was the record, sport;

After a shutout, there were 11 runs for a win and a comeback that fell just a little bit short.

New arrivals, um, arrived -- draft pick Prince and draft pick Fiers;

But scoring runs remained as easy as picking up water with pliers

A sweep at the hands of the team from Kane County;

Has this team reeling, yet they are still in the hunt for playoff bounty.

This road trip ahead is either an opportunity or a gaping maw;

Get ready for another edition of This Week in Timber Rattlers Baseball.

Plus, Austin Powers, CPO Sharkey, and a little more Warren Zevon.

Just something

The latest This Week in Timber Rattlers Baseball just got posted at SportsBubbler.com.

A bit of a post-mortem on the week that was, an awesome Brock Samson .gif, the soothing sounds of Paul Carrack, Archie Bunker explains the playoff chase in the second half, and GET TO THE CHOPPER!

The opening rhyme:

Looking back on the trip to Michigan is not a lot of fun;

Getting outscored by that much would make an optimist stop looking for the sun.

Yet, after a week like that -- with one win out of six;

This Rattlers team is still in the mix.

Yes, Merklinger and Cain are both recently promoted;

But, Miller, Komatsu, and Seidel joined the team to give hope to the devoted.

A few games at home haven't been much help;

The Dragons have been making the home team yelp.

The season marches on and we roll towards the fall;

Hang in there, folks. Here's this week in Timber Rattlers Baseball.

The open:

This week's entry is short and sweet;
Only a few games were played on this street.

The first half ended below .500 and with a bit of a hush;
And after a hot All-Star Break, half two has started with a one game rush.

Hang on for this update quite small;
Time for This Week in Timber Rattlers Baseball.

Enjoy a little Icehouse, the band, not the beer to end the post, too.

Meanwhile, over at the Bubbler today

The latest TWITRB has been posted. The open:

Long winning streaks all come to an end,

The Rattlers sent the Kernels 13-gamer around the bend.

Meadows are supposed to be calm, restful places,

But the Meadows with Wisconsin is giving opposing hitters lots of unhappy faces.

It's a great time for all when the ending of a game makes the stadium rock,

That's exactly what happened on Wednesday with a home run by Brock.

Lawrie is DL'ed and this new guy named Braun has filled in at his station;

and Henderson is reaching for a record that has stood as long as Timber Rattler Nation

The first half only has a few games before the curtain will fall;

Time for this week's edition of This Week in Timber Rattlers Baseball

Remember Alannah Myles? Remember that one song she had? The video is of that other song of hers. The one no one does at Karaoke.

Plus, actual insight...well, kind of some insight...well....oh, just go read it. The afternoon posting cavalcade will be along in about 45 minutes.
