POWER UP: Seidel appeared in 26 games (25 starts) for the West Virginia Power, Milwaukee’s Class-A affiliate in 2008. He went 9-5 with a 4.51ERA and pitched 121-1/3 innings for the Power.
MISSED SOME TIME: Due to an injury this past off-season, Seidel spent the first part of the 2009 season on the disabled list of the Timber Rattlers. He got back to action with a few rehab appearances for the Arizona League affiliate of the Brewers before joining the Timber Rattlers on July 22.
HOW DID THAT GO? Seidel made six starts for the Brewers in the desert and was 0-3 with a 6.67ERA. He walked eight and struck out 23 over 28-1/3 innings pitched, but allowed 24 runs on 43 hits.
RATED: Baseball America ranked Frederickson as the #18 prospect in the Milwaukee Brewer organization before the 2009 season. They also ranked him as the pitcher with the best change up in the Milwaukee system.
HOMESTATER: Seidel is the latest Timber Rattler to hail from the State of Wisconsin. Past Timber Rattlers to be from the Dairy State are Andy Augustine (’95), Sean Parnell (’00), Austin Bilke (’04), Tony Butler (’07), and Korey Feiner (’08).
LAST START: Seidel allowed seven runs on 10 hits over five innings and took the loss against the Arizona League affiliate of the Texas Rangers on July 19.
VS. DAYTON: Seidel has never faced the Dayton Dragons.
VS. CINCINNATI: Seidel made three appearances (two starts) against the Billings Mustangs, the Pioneer League affiliate of the Cincinnati Reds, in 2007. He had no record, but allowed nine runs (eight earned) on eight hits over six innings with six walks and four strikeouts in those three games.

AMONG THE LEADERS: Nieves was fifth in the Pioneer League in innings pitched and fifth in the Pioneer League in wins.
STREAKING: Nieves won four consecutive decisions between June 22 and July 13, 2008.
AWARD WINNING: Nieves was the Pioneer League Pitcher of the Week for his performances July 7-13.
WHAT A GAME! Nieves tossed eight innings without allowing a run and striking out nine at Great Falls on August 25. He retired the side in order in the first inning. The Voyagers picked up a leadoff double in the second inning. Then, Nieves retired the next 21 batters in a row.
WORKING VACATION: Nieves pitched for Arecibo in the Puerto Rican Winter League during the off season.

It's about an hour before first pitch, and R.J. Seidel leans his 6-foot-5 frame against a large trunk inside the indoor batting cage at Fox Cities Stadium in Grand Chute.
That he's actually there, decked out in his Wisconsin Timber Rattlers black warm-up top and talking about taking the bump in today's Midwest League series finale against the Dayton Dragons is as unlikely as it is remarkable.
"With the advancement of surgery, the rehab — nowadays, you can come back a lot quicker than you used to," the right-hander said. "They kept telling me I was ahead of schedule the whole time. I just kept working hard and really wanted to get some innings in this year."

It's December, two days after Christmas, and Seidel is jogging along a trail somewhere in La Crosse when his right leg slips on a patch of ice, causing him to land awkwardly on his left leg.
He crumples to the ground but manages to hobble back to his car and call his father. A trip to the hospital doesn't seem to indicate any substantial damage, but an MRI reveals a nightmare: a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee.
Surgery follows in late January. Then comes a lingering bout with sickness because of the medication, which results in a 15-pound weight loss and leaves him weakened at 185 pounds. And then comes an arduous rehab program that taxes the mind and body but leaves nary a dent on his soul.
"I couldn't even walk a week after surgery, and usually, you're supposed to," said the 21-year-old Seidel, who called some of his early rehab work, like being forced to fully extend his reconstructed knee, the worst pain he has ever experienced.
"It was grueling," he added. "I was sweating beads, dripping. To think I'm here right now and ready to pitch in a game …"
