Edgar, the Egret of Excuses here. Just letting you know that there are two lineup cards made out for tonight. But nothing official yet, I just didn't want to mess up the flow of the days posting.
It has been a long morning and Mehring has been racing around and waiting...if that makes any sense. The tarp is finally off the field and the game notes and lineups are done.
The rest of the nonsen....I mean, posts for the day will be up after the game...and if ya believe that, let me tell you another.
Sorry. I need to use Edgar, the Egret of Excuses today.
Game notes and a few other posts should be up soon, but with all of the stuff going on today, the Rattler Alumni Report and the Midwest League Action posts are either going to be put off until later or a pass will need to be taken on it again.
Legitimate excuse. We recently installed a new e-mail and CRM (Customer Relations Software) on our system here at Time Warner Cable Field.
Just got out of the training session. Well, that's not completely true. That ended about 30 minutes ago. Just finished stuffing my face with pizza courtesey of the fine folks at Heartland Business Systems.
That means it is time for the first 2010 appearance of Edgar, the Egret of Excuses! Now, to the Blogging!
Mehring is still getting things together here this morning. He had to wrap up the SportsBubbler.com column. The bus getting in at 1:30 didn't help matters. But, it could have been worse. If we stuck around Burlington to try to get that game in, the bus may not have been in until 3:30 or 4:00 this morning and he would still be sleeping.
He said something about early lunch and getting to work on the blog after that.
So....in the mean time check out this story from the PC this morning.
It has been a fairy tale week for the 14-year-old Appleton Babe Ruth baseball team. Serving as host of the World Series, it had found its way into the quarterfinal round of the tournament on Thursday night against North Syracuse.
By game's end, Appleton was still living a storybook existence.
A bases-loaded, two-out throwing error allowed Appleton to tie the game in the bottom of the seventh against North Syracuse, and the home team then scored the winning run on a bunt in the eighth that drew another overthrow to first in an improbable 5-4 comeback victory.
The semifinal game tonight is against Youngstown, Ohio at 8:00pm
No.no.no. Not the week of games. The crowds have been great. The weather has been awesome and the games have been close.
I, Edgar, the Egret of Excuses, along with Carl, Fairfax, Telemachus, and Mehring have all been disappointed in the lack of morning updates on the blog for the last week or so. Brick...we asked him, but he just didn't care.
It turns out that Mehring isn't as much of a machine as we all thought he was and he occasionally needs sleep....Along with completing other tasks that allow him to do this fun little thing.
So...The day of posting is upon you...along with a promise...a promise that tomorrow will be a better day...if it isn't...Well, then there is always the day after that.
The past week started with a lot of promise; Now with six straight losses, this team is looking into the abyss.
A lost weekend in Peoria that happened quite fast; Then, three games vs. a 70 win team was like putting a match to some gas.
Yet, hope is still alive because of the rest of this lot; Somehow the Rattlers are only two games out of a wild card spot.
Remember, too that there is just over a month to go 'til the curtain will fall Let's not waste another moment. Time for this Week in Timber Rattlers Baseball.
You have got to check out Mehring's weird Warren Zevon obsession in this column. Plus, guess the 70's Sitcom character. Hint, the word grits are involved.
Mehring also mentioned he must have been tired, because he fell asleep three times trying to watch Burn Notice on the DVR...He also wonders if he dreamed the part where Michael hauled off and belted Fiona as part of keeping his cover and will probably have to watch it again.
Edgar, the Egret of Excuses regrets to inform you that Mehring wanted to finish his SportsBubbler.com column and now it is almost checkout time at the hotel.
Regular posting will start as soon as he gets to the nearby Buffalo Wild Wings, has one of those nifty Buffalitos, gets caught up on a lot of other stuff, and finds a table near an outlet.
Mehring asked me to say that he woke up late and has been flying around the stadium since getting in today. And he still hasn't had his traditional five-course pre-game meal or filled out his scorebook....He's on the air in about an hour...So.....
No regular posting...Most of that will be up later today...like after the game. But, the regular stuff..Game Notes...Starting Pitcher...Starting Lineup...that will be up shortly.
The rest will be up later....Unless he's playing on-line poker. Don't worry. He'll bust out in about 20 minutes.
