No game in South Bend tonight

Long story short:

Tonight's game between the Rattlers and South Bend Silver Hawks has been postponed due to wet grounds.

There will be a single game on Sunday at 1pm CDT.

Saturday's game will be made up as part of a doubleheader on Monday starting at 4pm CDT.

For the longer version, you have to go back to last night. Here is the South Bend Tribune game story:
Scoring runs early — something the South Bend Silver Hawks haven't been doing lately — turned out to be a problem Friday night.

South Bend batted around in the first inning and erupted for five runs against Beloit, but the Silver Hawks took too much time doing it. When a severe thunderstorm hit Coveleski Stadium, the Hawks had a 5-4 lead in the top of the fourth inning. The game never resumed.
I have been on the phone for the last 20 minutes getting the details. Well, five minutes getting the details...15 minutes writing the post.

That severe thunderstorm hit and the grounds crew tried to get the tarp on the field, but the wind was whipping the tarp -- and the people pulling the tarp -- around to the point that they could not get the tarp all the way on the field.  It sounded like they wanted to get the trap on much, much earlier, but the band played on.

Add to that already drenched field another storm squall that rolled through just after the Timber Rattlers pulled into the hotel around 2:30am last night and you have...well, I have someone on staff here to take care of announcements like this.....

I'm Fairfax, the field conditions ferret!  I am letting you know that the field is unplayable for today. No game today.  No game today.

Meet a couple members of the cast

Many of you regular readers know these guys. Consider this an introduction for the new people.

This is Carl, the rain-hating camel.

This is Brick, the bad weather hating bactrian

This is Telemachus, the tarping tapir.

This is Fairfax, the field conditions ferrett.

They haven't been around much and -- to tell the truth -- they really don't want to be around that much.

But, right now, it's raining, the tarp is on the field, and the field is pretty wet. Brick is around to try to keep those thunderstorms away.

Fan Fest is still on for a noon start. Stay tuned either here or to http://www.twitter.com/timberrattlers for updates.

For you new readers, consider these guys as a code. The readers who have been around for awhile already know this, but click your and drag your cursor from left to right on the space below to find out the secret behind the secret to the code.

I'm needed elsewhere

Howdy, howdy, Rattler fans. Fairfax, the field conditions ferrett, here.

No, no. I'm not here because of today's Timber Rattler game at Time Warner Cable Field. Beautiful, beautiful weather in the Fox Cities today and I really think you should think about skipping work to come out to the game.

Look, look at this picture from our friends down in Huntsville taken from Starsboxscore with a tip o' the cap to Brewerfan.net

Conditions, conditions have been -- as we in the business say -- crappy, crappy. Stars, stars will be trying to play today and there is an incentive.
Monday was scheduled to be a 1 pm game..... Always with his thinking cap on, GM Buck Rogers declared Monday "Ferris Bueller's Day Off" Day........ Becasue it's also a school/work day, Buck remarked to the staff that he'd shave my head if he could get 1,000 people to cut school or work and take in this game. So this was the deal. Print the e-mail announcement sent out by Buck and bring it to the game and get in for a buck. If 1,000 fans make it out to Monday's game, one of them gets to shave his head and win two tickets for every remaining Stars home game.

Buck was betting most of you in Huntsville are like Ferris's buddy, Cameron, the worry-wart who freaked over everything, especially his father's Ferrari. The folks at WHNT sent it out to 68,000 people in their database.
Might, might buy a ticket on-line to make that happen.

Happy, happy day to you all and 'Go, Go, Rattlers!"
