Travel Pictures (South Bend)

View from my hotel window yesterday afternoon.

Hotel art in this downtown hotel is both pastoral:

and urny...is that a word that means there are a lot of urns?

These pictures are from last night as Gozer the Gozerian tried to come through a portal on the building across the street.

Hotel Room Art (Peoria April 28)

A Bend in the River

Rolling Hills with a distant lake

More Rolling Hills but closer to the lake.
Sorry about the flash in the middle picture. It's a new camera...and the same photographer.

Back for the first time in 2010

I'll compress this down into one post instead of the usual two.

The View from my Hotel Window

Ah...poolside room at a Phoenix, Arizona hotel.

Not all it's cracked up to be.

Hotel Art

The only differences between these pictures is the amount of fruit in the bowl and the spiral design thingy in the background.

Hotel Art (Lansing, 2009)

Interesting choices in this hotel. Some old time photographs of the capital building and of downtown Lansing.

Returning today

The view from my hotel window in Burlington:
Ground floor room. No window screen. A view of the parking garage. Very relaxing.

However, if I can figure out a way to get these on the bus undamaged, the Poker Playing Dogs painting may have some company at the trailer.

I'm calm just looking at them. Can you feel it?

Hotel Stuff (Quad Cities)

Just putting them all into one post:

The sign for this particular company says Safety and Quality First. Well, which is it? They can't both be first?

How's this for a hotel room. It's better than the trailer.

I like my framed movie poster of The Terminator better.

Oh I’d rather walk a winding road
Rather know the things I know
See the world with my own eyes
No regrets, no looking back, no goodbyes
No goodbyes

Someday I'll go where there ain't no rain or snow
‘Til then, I travel alone
And I make my bed with the stars above my head
And I dream of a place called home

Hotel Art (Fort Wayne)

The new hotel in Fort Wayne needs no art on the walls of the rooms. The Hotel in Fort Wayne is a work of art.

EVEN THE HALLWAY IS A WORK OF ART!

It goes on and on and on...whoops, wrong post. But, still...

Hotel Art (Dayton)

Imagine the conversation:

Couple at left:
Man: Wouldst thou wish to attend a sporting event after services?

Woman: Verily, I wouldst rather stand in the stream over which we have just passed during a most bitterly cold February day. Now, step away, ere thou has an Order of Restraint placed upon thee by local magistrate.

Old man and young man at center
Old man: Now, young lad, what do we call the DH in 'the show'?

Young Man: An abomination?

Old man: Good lad. An extra ration of rum for you tonight!

Young ladies at right:
Pointing girl: And then he sayeth that he wouldst hit a home run to center.

Non-pointing girl: And didst he?

Pointing girl: Yes!

Non-pointing girl: Such insolence!

Hotel Art (Burlington, 2008 Round 2)

Roy: Nothing like a farm. Nothing like being around animals, fixing things. There's nothing like being in the field with the corn and the winter wheat. The greenest stuff you ever saw.

Pops: You know, my mother told me I ought to be a farmer.

Roy: My dad wanted me to be a baseball player.

Hotel Art (Cedar Rapids, 2008 Round 2)

You have no idea how crazy it has been at this hotel as they have tried to accommodate the team and all the other guests. I appreciate what they have done to help us. But, still, these made me laugh.

For background, go to this post right here.

Did you go there? You won't get it if you don't.

Hotel Art (Burlington, 2008)

I think these are paintings of flowers seen as photo negatives.

Somewhat unsettling.

Hotel Art (Peoria, 2008)

Insert generic painting of flower here.

Let's be honest, I'm not looking for The School of Athens by Raphael

or even a David Hockney.

Just..try...you know...try...something like this, maybe?

Is it too much to ask?

Hotel Art (Cedar Rapids, 2008)

Different room. Same artwork as last year...again. Did they get a deal on these paintings?

The only thing that is different is where the second picture is on the wall. It's on a shared wall in this picture from last year. It's on the wall with the window this year in a picture that I did not take.

Both pictures are from last year. The links above take you to last year's posts.

Hotel Art (Great Lakes, 2008)

Abstract Map. Right there at the corner of Dali Way and Rothko Boulevard.

I never understand why they have the same picture next to each other...Unless, that's part of the work of art.

Hotel Art (Lansing, 2008)

I think the artist called this one....

Blank wall with sofa.

Hotel Art (South Bend, 2008)

The internet in the room is still acting weird and the bus to the ballpark is in about 45 minutes. So, here are a few picture posts to let you know that I woke up this morning and won't be missing the bus.

The regular posts will follow once I get set up in the press box.

Great. More flowers.

Nice view, if you're into this kind of thing.

Roads go ever ever on,
Over rock and under tree,

By caves where never sun has shone,

By streams that never find the sea;

Hotel Art (Beloit, 2008 Round 1)

Why put two identical pictures right next to each other?

Unless they aren't identical? Exactly. That's why I was up until 3am playing Spot the Difference. Haven't found one yet, but I think that it's in the shadows.

Hotel Art

Taken at the Quad Cities hotel on 4/4/08:

Someone made a painting of the shelves at the trailer. What the heck goes on back there when I'm not around?
