WEST TENNESSEE (AA: 70-68, 28-38 4th Southern League North Division): The Diamond Jaxx lost 4-2 at Carolina. The Mudcats swept West Tennessee out of the first round of the playoffs. The Diamond Jaxx scored twice on an error in the top of the first inning, but Carolina scored four times in the bottom of the second inning. Greg Halman ('07) had three of West Tennessee's eight hits.

Justin Thomas ('06) got the final out of the eighth inning and JJ Putz ('00) pitched a scoreless ninth for the save. Matt Tuiasosopo ('05) got the start at third base, went 1-for-4, and picked up his first major league hit.

SEATTLE (MAJ: 54-85 4th American League West): The Mariners were off on Thursday.

WEST TENNESSEE (AA: 70-68, 28-38 4th Southern League North Division): The Diamond Jaxx lost 11-2 to Carolina in Game Two of the North Division Southern League Playoffs. Mike Wilson ('05) drove in both runs for West Tennessee and did that in the first inning. But, the Mudcats scored four runs in the first inning and eventually put the game away with five runs in the top of the ninth off Shawn Kelley ('08). Anthony Varvaro ('07) made his Double-A debut by getting the final out of the ninth.

The Diamond Jaxx trail their best-of-five series 0-2. The teams are off today and resume the series on Saturday night in Zebulon, North Carolina.

WEST TENNESSEE (AA: 70-68, 28-38 4th Southern League North Division): The final game of the Diamond Jaxx season at Mississippi was cancelled by Hurricane Gustav. They start the Southern League Playoffs on Wednesday.

SEATTLE (MAJ: 52-83 4th American League West): The Mariners beat Cleveland 4-3 in 10 innings. Shin-soo Choo (’02) homered in the bottom of the ninth inning off JJ Putz (’00) to tie the game 2-2. The M’s scored twice in the top of the tenth and held on for the win.

TACOMA (AAA: 78-64, 2nd Pacific Coast League Pacific Northern Division): The Rainiers beat Portland 6-4. Tacoma scored three times in the bottom of the eighth inning to rally from a 4-3 deficit. Matt Tuiasosopo drove in the tying run by getting hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. Shawn Garrett drove in the next two runs with a single. Denny Stark (’97) got the win.

WEST TENNESSEE (AA: 70-67, 28-37 4th Southern League North Division): The Diamond Jaxx lost 6-5 at Mississippi. Marshall Hubbard (’05) hit a grand slam in the top of the first inning for an early West Tennessee lead. But, the Braves rallied to tie the game 4-4 in the bottom of the sixth. The teams traded runs in the seventh. Then, Kala Ka’aihue homered in the bottom of the ninth to win the game.

HIGH DESERT (High-A: 56-82, 24-44 second half 5th California League South Division): The Mavericks lost 9-2 at Lake Elsinore. Gavin Dickey (’08) and Carlos Triunfel (’07) had an RBI each for High Desert. The win was Lake Elsinore's ninth straight.

EVERETT (Short Season-A: 31-41, 3rd Northwest League Western Division): The AquaSox beat Salem-Keizer 5-4 in ten innings. Everett trailed the game 4-2, but scored single runs in the seventh and eighth innings to tie the game. Anthony Phillips drove in the winning run with a single.

WEST TENNESSEE (AA: 68-65, 26-35 4th Southern League North Division): The Diamond Jaxx were swept in a doubleheader by Montgomery. The Biscuits won game won 10-2. Montgomery completed the sweep with a 3-0 win in game two that saw West Tennessee get just three hits.

West Tennessee won game one 12-5 with home runs by Brent Johnson (’05), Johan Limonta (’06), and Mike Wilson (’05). Carolina won game two 7-5 with four runs in the top of the sixth.
