All Quiet on the Rattler Radio Front

The Rattler Radio crew hopes that you had a great holiday. The Alumni Report was all set to go this morning, but no Alumni played in the Dominican and Puerto Rico. Plus, the teams in Venezuela had Sunday off on the schedule.

We are heading out for the day to work on a couple of projects that will payoff at some point down the line -- either on this site or on the main site...I hope.

Stay tuned.

How to handle this?

Thanks to KLSnow from Brew Crew Ball for sending this one along.

It's a link that heads over to the blog of minor leaguer Garrett Broshius.

He -- Broshuis -- takes note of a fan chat with the new GM that the Toronto Blue Jays are increasing the road per diem for their minor league players from $20/day to $25/day.

The reasoning is to allow players to make healthy selections when dining.

I can go three ways on this:

1.) Make a couple of sarcastic comments and forget this post ever happened until it comes time to discuss my per diem for road games with my boss. (Aside: Though I doubt that the "So I can eat healthier on the road" excuse with get me very far in asking for an increase. One of the perils of working with the same people for 10 years.)

2.) Make a half-hearted attempt two days before Christmas at being serious about it on a blog post that will get buried.

3.) Actually do a little research into the subject and dedicate a Mehring Monday to the topic early in the New Year.

Now, since I am a lazy person who only gets an adrenaline rush when dealing with a deadline, I am always looking to put things off to the last possible minute. I choose Option #3.

I know that there is a healthy eating guide from Jake Marx, the strength and conditioning coach of the Rattlers in 2009, around here somewhere...I wasn't planning on following it, mind you. It was for entertainment purposes.

Once I find it, I'll put a column together. Maybe the first one of 2010...but more likely the second...definitely by the third.

There. I've given you something to look forward to in the New Year.

I will try

The bus got in around 4:15 or something this morning and I slept in until 10. Lots of deadlines and various other projects today.

Trying to get game notes done in the next 30 minutes.

Will try to update with the usual posts around 4pm?

Until then, go take another look at that Ironside episode from Rain Delay Theater last night.

It's not quarter to three

It's like 4am here in Grand Rapids. But, I that bus ride made me feel like Frank & I have been out on the town...so:

Posting will either be in two or three hours or not at all this morning.

Check back this afternoon

Sorry for the delay. Life would be so much easier if sleep weren't necessary.

But, then I'd wind up like Tony Todd in that one X-Files episode.

By Bronson's Pipe Collection!

I've got things -- important, Rattler Radio type things -- to do today. Like cleaning the trailer, switching out to the shorter toupee...what you that the rug on my head was real?...and various other tasks that should really get taken care of today.

Oh, you caught me. I'm just going to try to recreate the night Charles Bronson had in the Japanese cologne commercial below.

I can't remember where I saw this first so: Thanks to the awesomest college football blog Everyday Should Be Saturday and The Alphabetical column at The Sporting Blog for finding this little slice of Mandom.

Posts should be thrown against the wall later this afternoon.

Minor news probably today

There is some news that may be out today regarding the Timber Rattlers. It's nowhere near as big as the news yesterday, but it may be of interest to readers of this blog.

Here's the thing: I'm out of the office for most of the day for a sales call to Milwaukee. So, no lunchtime updates today. Just check the Timber Rattler website later this afternoon to see if the news has been released. If it has, I'll have a post about it here later tonight. If it hasn't, I'll just update as sometimes happens here.

In the meantime, check out the comments on the post about the logo. Mike and Josh both brought their A-game.

A few things

There are a few posts I'm working on, but I'll put them up at lunch.

Also, I've got another high school basketball game tonight for Time Warner Cable Sports. Kaukauna hosts Oshkosh West in the season opener for Kaukauna and the conference opener for Oshkosh West.

Back later.

They are saying, "Never."

Owners rule on playoff weather
There has never been a rain-shortened game in the postseason, and now there never will be.

Commissioner Bud Selig announced the sport will enact a rules change stating that postseason games cannot be shortened because of bad weather.

"All postseason games, All-Star Games ... will be full-length affairs, and the rule will be so written," Selig said Thursday following an owners' meeting.

Selig said the change also will apply to tiebreaker games that decide division titles and wild-card berths.

"Any game that has significance for the postseason," he said. "It will be very clear now. Everybody will know exactly."
Why do I have a feeling that something else is going to come up that will need another rule change in the future?

Remember

I'll put some posts up later this weekend. Just needed the day yesterday and today. Back strong tomorrow. I promise! Either before or after the Packer-Bear game. That will give plenty to look at on Monday for those who spent precious company time scanning the internet.

Props again to despair.com for the image.

Plenty more tomorrow

There is still a lot of stuff about which I would like to post. But, there isn't a lot of time today.

Here is the plan. The pitching probables, the game notes, and the tonight's pitcher post will be up in the next 20 minutes.

Tomorrow, I'll do the regular posts before the game. Then, after the game, I will play dig out from under.

Then, on Monday and Tuesday it will start all over again.

Stuff to do

Will try to be back later with some stuff from the hotel or Pohlman Field. Right now, there is a bus to catch.
