Hot off the internets...

The latest (and very condensed) edition of This Week in Timber Rattlers Baseball is available over at the Bubbler.

The open:

This week's entry is short and sweet;
Only a few games were played on this street.

The first half ended below .500 and with a bit of a hush;
And after a hot All-Star Break, half two has started with a one game rush.

Hang on for this update quite small;
Time for This Week in Timber Rattlers Baseball.

Enjoy a little Icehouse, the band, not the beer to end the post, too.

"But the more innings I throw, I'm starting to get a feel. It's getting better."

That's a quote from Alex Periard in the prodigal beat writer's story on him.
"I'm trying to pull my front shoulder too much, so the ball's cutting instead of sinking," said Periard, whose fastball touched as high as 89 mph on the stadium radar gun. "I'm just tying to concentrate on my delivery right now, be consistent in and out of the zone. My fastball command. For me, it's just staying healthy."

And eventually advancing to Huntsville, his likely destination had he opened the season without the troubled shoulder.
Go read the whole thing.

Speaking of tv shows

The latest Timber Rattlers Field Pass is out there on In*Demand Channel 1111 for Time Warner Cable Subscribers.

This is the latest show where I make a fool of myself. This time is is not only with words and dumb questions. This is the Merhing in the bullpen segment.

I haven't seen it yet, but it must be good if it was called the best show we've ever done and if Jerry Augustine made a point to stop in the radio booth before going on TV last night to give me pointers on my delivery.

If you are not a Time Warner Cable Subscriber, but -- for some reason -- would like to see any of the segments from past shows, we are working with TWC to post some of the content to YouTube in the near future.

The next airings of my trying to severely damage my right arm are at 9:00pm tonight, 4:00pm tomorrow after the rebroadcast of last night's telecast, and 11:30pm tomorrow.

That's all the help you are getting from me on this topic...until the video is available.

Why not?

'Man vs. Food' host Adam Richman will attend Whitecaps game to tackle Fifth Third Burger
The West Michigan Whitecaps' Fifth Third Burger, which has drawn worldwide attention, will be featured on the Travel Channel's "Man vs. Food."

The show's host, Adam Richman, will attend the Whitecaps' July 15 game at Fifth Third Ballpark against the Peoria Chiefs to shoot an episode of eating the Fifth Third Burger that will be aired at a later date.

Mickey Graham, the Whitecaps' director of marketing and media relations, said he thinks Richman might try to break the record of eating a Fifth Third Burger, which is 17 minutes.
Read on at the link and see video of Mr. Richman in action.

This reminds me. Travel Channel needs to bring Three Sheets back to the airwaves.

Complete scoreboard

@Wisconsin 4, Peoria 1: “All of it was with two outs, and one thing we’ve been talking about as a club is we need to get more productivity with two outs,” Rattlers manager Jeff Isom said. “It was nice to see. Because that’s what we’re going to have to do if we’re going to have success in the second half. We’re going to have to have some big hitting with two outs.

Bonus excerpt, because I know there are probably a few questions...
Delaney OK
[John] Delaney was forced out of the game in the fourth when he was plunked in the head on an offering from Chiefs starter Justin Bristow. Afterward, Isom deemed his third baseman “fine” and said his departure was strictly precautionary.

“It hit off his helmet and kind of grazed off his cheek a little bit,” Isom said. “Anytime you’ve got a head issue, a guy getting hit in the head, they take that pretty serious.”
@West Michigan 4, Great Lakes 0: Rust? What rust? After a three-day all-star break, the West Michigan Whitecaps excelled on the mound, at the plate and in the Fifth Third Ballpark field Thursday night in a 4-0 win against the Great Lakes Loons.

@Fort Wayne 8, South Bend 4: “The kids came out, and it looked like they didn’t miss a beat,” TinCaps manager Doug Dascenzo said. “We didn’t say anything to them. We looked up on the board and saw the record was 0-0. We knew we had a game to play, and they went out and played it.”

@Lansing 6, Dayton 5: Matt Daly would be just fine with the rest of the Lansing Lugnuts games playing out like their last one. Daly struck out three batters in the ninth inning Thursday - the last with most of the 7,812 fans at Oldsmobile Park on their feet and cheering him on - as he picked up his 13th save in 14 tries for a 6-5 win against Dayton.

Kane County 12 @Quad Cities 3: The start of the second half of the Midwest League season had an all-too familiar storyline for the Quad-Cities River Bandits. "I think I've seen that one before," manager Steve Dillard said after watching first-half Western Division champion Kane County hand his team a 12-3 Midwest League loss Thursday at Modern Woodmen Park.

@Clinton 7, Beloit 2: “Before the game Coach Steinmann told us to treat every at bat like a brick of gold,” Savastano said, “and I didn’t want them to take my gold bar away.” (Editors Comment: Coach Steinmann?)

@Burlington 9, Cedar Rapids 4: Burlington's last game was June 21, a victory at Peoria. Four players headed to Clinton for the All-Star Game. The remainder enjoyed some time away from the field, enjoying their time doing nothing. "Sleep. Eat. And go to FunCity swimming pool. That's it," said Bees catcher Jose Bonilla, who was 2-for-4 with a home run. "Back home and sleep again. Then worked out (Wednesday)."

Milwaukee Brewers Report: Games of June 25, 2009

HUNTSVILLE (AA: 41-32 overall, 3-1 second half; T-1st Southern League North Division): Huntsville defeated the Chattanooga 12-1. Jonathon Lucroy homered and drove in four runs for the Stars. Lawrie goes to the future

Brett Lawrie is the latest Timber Rattler to be selected to participate in the Futures Game.
Wisconsin Timber Rattlers second baseman Brett Lawrie has been named to the World roster for the XM Futures Game. The annual prospect showcase will be held on Sunday, July 12 at Busch Stadium as part of All-Star Weekend in St. Louis, Missouri.

Lawrie, who just returned from the Midwest League All-Star game in Clinton, is hitting .268 with eight homers and 40 RBI with the Timber Rattlers this season. The Canadian from Langley, British Columbia was the first round pick of the Milwaukee Brewers in the 2008 draft and made his first professional debut with the Timber Rattlers back on April 9th of this year.
He's not the only player with Rattler ties to participate this year.

Alex Liddi ('06-'08) will be teammates with Lawrie on the World team. Chris Tillman ('07) is on Team USA. Liddi is in High Desert. Tillman is in Norfolk with the Orioles...remind me again how he wound up with Baltimore.

Off the top of my head I can think of Craig Anderson ('00), Phillippe Aumont ('08), and Shin soo Choo ('02) playing in the game in the same season they were with the Rattlers. A few others, Balentien and Chen played in the game after they left town.

June 25, 2009: Opposition Research

From the game notes of the Peoria Chiefs

Roster stability: There are only six players (Brenly, Bristow, DeLeon, Made, & Rundle) on the Chiefs roster who were not here on Opening Day and two of those joined the Chiefs immediately (Brenly/Bristow). There are no roster moves as the second half begins.

Leaning left: The Chiefs have the ability to send six left-handed hitters to the plate every day. Outfielders Kyler Burke, Drew Rundle, and Nelson Perez hit left-handed as does infielder Ryan Flaherty. David Macias and Jose Made are both switch-hitters giving manager Marty Pevey plenty of options.
