The '97 Mariners wrapped up their series with the Minnesota Twins by salvaging the final game of the series at the Kingdome. Seattle picked up 10-6 victory.
The M's trailed 5-4 after Minnesota scored three runs in the top of the sixth inning off Bob Wolcott. Then, Todd Ritchie replaced Twin starting pitcher Scott Aldred.
Jay Buhner walked. Paul Sorrento pinch hit for Mike Blowers and doubled to send Buhner to third. Russ Davis was next and his two-run single put Seattle in front. One out later, Dan Wilson hit for Alvaro Espinoza and tripled to drive in Davis for a 7-5 Seattle lead.
Greg McCarthy relieved Bob Wolcott in the top of the seventh. He allowed a two-out walk to Rich Becker and an RBI double to Roberto Kelly, but got out of the inning.
Seattle padded their lead with three runs in the bottom of the eighth. Rick Aguilera relieved Eddie Guardado and loaded the bases. Then, he hit Alex Rodriguez. Then, he walked Ken Griffey. Then, Edgar Martinez hit a sacrifice fly. 10-6 Seattle.
Norm Charlton, who got the final out of the eighth inning, pitched a scoreless ninth inning for the save.
Seattle ends the day 11-7; 1-1/2 games in front of the Athletics in the AL West.
