Game Notes -- 4/19

ABOUT WEDNESDAY: The Rattlers beat the Snappers 3-2 in eleven innings. Greg Halman singled with the bases loaded to drive in the winning run.

GOING THE EXTRA MILE: Yesterday was the first extra inning game of the season for the Timber Rattlers. Wisconsin won their final extra inning game of the season in 2006.

ONE UNDER THE BELT: Yesterday was the first home victory of the season for the Rattlers.

WITHOUT A HIT: The Rattlers scored their first two runs of the game without a hit. Leury Bonilla reached third base on a throwing error in the second inning and scored on an infield grounder. In the sixth inning, Wisconsin trailed 2-1. Ougi Diaz walked and stole second. Then, Luis Nunez walked. Carlos Triunfel dropped a sacrifice bunt and Halman drove in the tying run with a grounder.

THE HITS KEEP ON COMING: Halman started the season 0-for-16 with fourteen strikeouts. Since then, he has gone 7-for-19 and is currently on a five game hitting streak.

DRY SPELL: Andy Hargrove singled with two outs in the bottom of the fifth. Wisconsin went without a hit from that point until Diaz singled with one out in the bottom of the eleventh.

STRONG START: Rattler starting pitcher Chris Tillman allowed two runs (one earned) over 5-2/3 innings. He struck out eight and did not walk a batter in a no decision.

RELIEF WORK: Steve Uhlmansiek (2.1IP), Natividad Dilone (2IP), and Andrew Barb (IP) combined to pitch 5-1/3 scoreless innings and allowed just one hit.

DOUBLE DOWN: Wisconsin turned three double plays yesterday. All three ended innings, including a 6-4-3 twin killing in the top of the ninth and a 6-3 double play in the top of the tenth.


OPPOSING STARTER: RHP Jeff Manship was the 14th round pick of the Twins in the 2006 draft out of Notre Dame. He was the Big East Pitcher of the Year in 2006 and led the conference in wins with nine and strikeouts with 111 before the draft. His record was 9-2 with an ERA of 3.26. Manship pitched in six games professionally in 2006 (two in the Gulf Coast League and four with the Fort Myers Miracle of the Florida State League. He did not have a record and had an ERA of 1.26. In his last start, Manship pitched 5-2/3 shutout innings against the Clinton LumberKings and picked up a no decision. He struck out ten and allowed just one hit.
