The '82 Brewers were trying to stop a five game losing streak on April 21. Robin Yount still wasn't in the starting lineup and the pitching matchup was Randy Lerch against Toronto's Luis Leal.
The Crew got an early lead for Lerch with a pair of runs in the third inning. Jim Gantner walked. One out later, Paul Molitor hit his first home run of the '82 season for a 2-0 advantage.
Lerch was terrific on this day. The lefty gave up two hits through the first seven innings. He walked two and did not strikeout a batter protecting that 2-0 Brewer lead.
In the top of the seventh, the Brewers loaded the bases and Ben Ogivie drew a bases loaded walk to push the lead to 3-0.
Lerch ran out of gas in the top of the eighth. Back-to-back singles by Barry Bonnell and Jesse Barfield sent Lerch out of the game and on came Rollie Fingers.
Fingers threw a wild pitch to move both runners up a base. Then, he went to work. Pinch hitter Ernie Whitt popped up. Willie Upshaw grounded out and Bonnell scored. Fingers got pinch hitter Hosken Powell looking at strike three.
In the ninth, Fingers worked around a two-out single by Lloyd Moseby by getting John Mayberry to ground out. That was the first save of the season for the Brewer closer and the losing streak was over after the 3-1 win.

The Brewers ended the day tied with Toronto for fifth place in the AL East, 2-1/2 games behind the Detroit Tigers.
The Brewers and Blue Jays continue their series at County Stadium tomorrow.
