No, really. That's the name. Yes, really. That's the logo

Looking at Ballpark Digest, I found this story about the nickname of the new independent team in Wichita, Kansas.

It's official:

Several questions about the future of baseball in Wichita were answered on Friday afternoon, but none more important than the long-awaited announcement of the team's name.

At a news conference at the Kansas Sports Hall of Fame, the team's ownership group, including former Wichita State and current Detroit Tigers pitcher Nate Robertson, pulled the cover from a poster that revealed Wichita's newest sports team:

The Wingnuts.

The poll (Yes, I know its an on-line poll) at the link has an 68%-27%-6% split on the name. That would be 68% opposed-27% in favor and 6% indifferent.

The logo? It's from the Wingnut Website.

Wingnuts...Wingnuts...Why does that name sound familiar?

Sports Logo Pundit chimes in with an opinion.
Ugh. The Wichita Wingnuts? Ridiculous.
...
One thing that the Wingnuts have to do is convince people that the American Association isn't a vastly inferior product and that the team should be taken just as seriously as the Wranglers were. So announcing an identity as bush league as this new Wingnuts nickname and logo is very counter productive.
