Notebooks

Lara was off Monday in Liga Venezuela Beisbol Profesional.

To make up for the lack of ex-Rattler action from yesterday, here are the league notebooks from MILB.com. Ex-Rattlers in bold italics.

Arizona Fall League (Final):
OF Brett Gardner (Yankees) hit .343, fifth in the league, and led the circuit with 16 steals. His 37 hits ranked second and his .433 OBP was good for fourth. OF Jordan Schafer (Braves) was third in the league with 34 hits and tied for third with 20 runs scored, batting .324. 2B Yung Chi Chen (Mariners) batted .339 to finish sixth in the league, while his .444 OBP was third. OF Justin Maxwell (Nationals) was second to Gardner with 15 steals and scored 19 runs to rank fifth in the league. RHP Garrett Mock (Nationals) finished fifth with 21 strikeouts.

The Javs hit .274 as a team, second in the league, and their 197 runs scored and 62 steals led the loop. Their 5.06 ERA was fifth.

Venezuela Winter League:
THE WEEK IN REVIEW: The Cardenales won four of six games to improve to 18-13 and climb into second place.

WHO'S HOT: P Scott Patterson (Mariners) extended his scoreless streak to 14 2/3 innings while limiting hitters to a .180 batting average. ... P Cesar Jimenez (Mariners) extended his scoreless streak to 11 2/3 innings. ... Fellow Mariners farmhands Mike Gallo and Sean White combined for a 2-0 record and yielded one run on eight hits and two walks over 13 1/3 frames. ... OF Luis Ugueto is batting .345 with a pair of home runs, six RBIs and six runs scored in his last eight games.

WHO'S NOT: 2B Hernan Iribarren (Brewers) is in a 5-for-25 (.200) slump. ... OF Robert Perez has five hits and three RBIs in his last 38 at-bats (.138).

NEWS AND NOTES: Jimenez is tied for second with four wins. ... Despite the slump, Perez is second with 25 RBIs. ... Patterson has yet to issue a walk but has hit one batter. ... Lara's offense is seventh in batting average (.244), but leads the league in homers (23).

A brief look shows that Scott Patterson and Mike Gallo are not now Mariner farmhands.

Dominican Winter League: The only ex-Rattler I found in a brief scan was Craig Anderson ('00).

Aguilas Cibaenas
THE WEEK IN REVIEW: The Aguilas dropped six of seven games, falling from first place to third place with a 12-11 record.

WHO'S HOT: 3B Tony Batista is off to a hot start, batting .357 with a homer and three RBIs in his first eight games. ... P Craig Anderson (Orioles) is 2-1 with a 1.50 ERA in four starts and picked up the only victory for the Aguilas this week. ... Former Rockies OF Alexis Gomez hit .429 (6-for-14) with an RBI this week to raise his average from .232 to .271.
