ABOUT SUNDAY: Ron Garth hit a pinch hit, game winning home run in the bottom of the eleventh inning to give the Timber Rattlers a 4-3 win over the Bees. Joe Woerman pitched a scoreless eleventh inning for the win.
FIRST TIME SINCE: Garth’s pinch hit homer was the first since Jeremy Dutton’s pinch hit homer at Cedar Rapids on July 10, 2004. It was also the first “walk off” homer for the Rattlers since Mike Wilson’s series ending home run against the Beloit Snappers on September 9, 2005.
HABIT FORMING: The last four game winning homers for the Rattlers at Fox Cities Stadium have all been in extra innings. ABOUT LAST NIGHT: The Rattlers took a 1-0 lead into the top of the ninth, but could not hold it and wound up losing 4-1. Former Timber Rattler Carlos Arroyo hit a pinch hit, infield single to drive in the tie-breaking run in the ninth.
WHAT A START: Rattler starting pitcher Jose Escalona pitched six shutout innings and gave up one hit with five walks. He also matched a career high for strikeouts with eight.
EARLY LEAD: Wisconsin scored an unearned run in the bottom of the first. Jeff Dominguez stole third and scored on a wild throw by Burlington catcher JP Lowen.
HOLDING HIS OWN: Joe Woerman pitched two scoreless innings in relief of Escalona to protect the 1-0 lead. Woerman has not allowed a run in his last 7-1/3 innings.
MISSED OPPORTUNITIES: The Rattlers had a runner at third and one out in the seventh, but failed to score. In the eighth the Rattlers loaded the bases with no outs, but could not pad their lead.

Game Notes for 5/20
ABOUT LAST NIGHT: The Rattlers lost 5-1 at Kane County. Jared Lansford allowed one hit over six shutout innings for the win. The Cougar offense scored five times in the bottom of the second inning off losing pitcher Ruben Flores. Kane County took three out of four games in the series from Wisconsin.
BIG INNING: Flores walked three, gave up four hits, and threw a wild pitch in the Cougars’ five-run second inning.
SETTLED DOWN: After allowing a two-run single to Mike Massaro to give the Cougars a 5-0 lead, Flores retired the next eight batters in a row.
LOCKED IN: Lansford, who pitched a 7-inning no-hitter against Beloit in the start prior to last night, extended his hitless streak to 12-2/3 innings before the Rattlers got their first hit. Eddy Hernandez doubled with two outs in the top of the fifth. Lansford retired the final four batters he faced.
AVOIDING THE SHUTOUT: Ron Garth drove in his team leading 21st RBI with a two-out single in the top of the eighth inning to avoid their sixth shutout of the season.
GENEVA BLUES: In the four game series at Elfstrom Stadium, the Rattlers were only outscored 15-12. Wisconsin hit just .208 (12-for-120) as a team and did not homer in the series.
POWER OUTAGE: The Rattlers have gone five games since their last home run. Jairo Hernandez went deep in the third inning of the first game of a doubleheader with Dayton on May 15. The Rattlers have three homers in their last ten games.

Nicoll (3rd round), Kiel Thibault (9th), Jeff Howell (10th), Michael Penn (11th), Cody Harkon (12th), Antonio Sabatini (14th), David Henninger (21st), Chris Kniginyzky (23rd), and Jeremy Jirschele (30th) were all drafted by the Royals last June.

Seattle (MAJ: 18-25; 4th AL West): The Mariners beat San Diego 7-4 at Safeco. Richie Sexson homered for the Mariners. Rafael Soriano (WI ’00) blew a save, but picked up the win as Seattle rallied for the win.
Tacoma (AAA – 20-19; 3rd PCL Pacific Northern Division): Tacoma lost 6-3 at Nashville. Francisco Cruceta struck out eleven over 6-2/3 innings, but got a no decision. Nashville scored twice in the seventh and four times in the eighth for the win. Michael Garciaparra (WI ’03) was 1-for-2 with a run scored to run his average with the Rainiers to .333.
San Antonio (AA – 14-24; 4th Texas League South Division): San Antonio beat Corpus Christi 5-3. The Missions scored three times in the bottom of the eighth. Ismael Castro tripled in a pair of runs to erase a 3-2 lead for the Hooks. Bryan LaHair (WI ’04) singled in another run in the inning. Ryan Feierabend (WI ’04) gave up one run on four hits over six innings for a no decision. Chad Fillinger (WI ’05) blew a save, but got the win.
