Game Notes -- 4/18

ABOUT LAST NIGHT: The Snappers beat the Timber Rattlers 5-2. Wisconsin had a 2-0 lead after five innings. Beloit scored three runs in the top of the sixth and put the game away with two runs in the eighth. Wisconsin has lost three straight games.

GOOD START: Tony Butler, Wisconsin’s starting pitcher last night, worked five scoreless innings. He allowed two hits, walked four, and struck out five to out the Rattlers in line for the win.

OUT OF THE JAM: Beloit had runners at first and third with one out in the top of the first inning. Butler got Snapper cleanup hitter Danny Valencia to ground into a 4-6-3 double play to end the Beloit threat.

GET OUTTA HERE: Alex Liddi put the Rattlers in front with a two-out solo home run in the bottom of the second inning. Liddi’s long ball was his first as a Rattler. It was also the first Timber Rattler home run at Time Warner Cable at Fox Cities Stadium.

POOF! IT’S GONE: Beloit took a 3-2 lead with just four batters in the top of the sixth. Valencia greeted Wisconsin reliever Justin Souza with a home run off the scoreboard above the left centerfield fence. Joe Benson popped up to second, but Luis Nunez dropped the ball and Benson reached. Chris Parmelee tripled in Benson to tie the game. One out later an infield grounder by Greg Yersich drove in Parmelee with the go ahead run.

FOUR: The Rattler offense collected just four hits last night. They had only one hit over the final 4-2/3 innings.

THREE: Three Rattler relievers allowed five runs on five hits over the final four innings.

TWO: Wisconsin committed two more errors last night. That gives the Rattlers 23 fielding miscues on the season. That total leads the Midwest League.

ONE: Last night was the first blown save for the Timber Rattler bullpen.

ZERO: The Rattlers are one of four Midwest League teams without a home win this season. Great Lakes, South Bend, and Kane County are the other teams still looking for a ‘W’ at home.

OPPOSING STARTER: RHP Adam Hawes was signed as a non-drafted free agent by the Twins in 2004. The Canadian spent all of 2006 with the Snappers and appeared in 24 games (14 starts). Hawes went 4-4 with a save and an ERA of 4.02. In his first appearance of 2007, he pitched five innings against the Clinton LumberKings in Clinton. The L-Kings got to Hawes for two runs on five hits and tagged him with the loss. He walked one and struck out four in that game. Hawes did not face the Timber Rattlers at all last season.
