Mariners: April 17, 1997

The '97 Mariners moved to 10-5 after their fourth win in a row on April 17. They beat the Tigers at Detroit with another come-from-behind win. This one was by a score of 8-6.

Detroit had a 3-0 lead after four innings against Seattle starter Jeff Fassero. But, in the top of the fifth, Seattle scored four runs.

Lee Tinsley doubled. Joey Cora knocked him in with a double. Ken Griffey homered (his eighth of the season) to tie the game. Later, Dan Wilson singled in a run to give Seattle the lead.

Detroit answered with a run in the bottom of the fifth on a Tony Clark RBI grounder.

Seattle retook the lead with an Alex Rodriguez RBI single in the sixth. They padded the lead with three more runs in the seventh. Tinsley had an RBI single and A-Rod singled in two more runs for an 8-4 lead.

The Tigers got a two-run homer from Clark in the bottom of the seventh, but the Mariner bullpen held on with Norm Charlton pitching a scoreless ninth for the save.

Fassero pitched five innings and ran his record to 3-0.

The Mariners ended the day in first place 1-1/2 games up on the Rangers.

Up next for the '97 M's is a homestand that starts on April 18 with a game against the Twins. Scott Sanders will start for Seattle and face off against Frankie Rodriguez.
