Brewers: April 14, 1982

The '82 Brewers were without Robin Yount for their game at Cleveland on April 14. Yount left the game the day before after an RBI single put him at 3-for-3 on the day. Eddie Romero pinch ran for Robin on 4/13 and the Crew shuffled their lineup to face John Denny on 4/14.

Paul Molitor moved to short, Don Money stepped in at third, and Roy Howell got the start at DH. Pete Vuckovich got the start, but the Brewer offense couldn't support him like it usually did.

The Tribe got the advantage early on a sacrifice fly by Jerry Dybzinski in the second inning. They made it 3-0 a few innings later. Andre Thornton drove in a pair with a bases loaded single and chase Vuke from the game. Bob McClure got out of the inning and kept the score at 3-0.

Milwaukee cut the lead to 3-1 with a run in the top of the fifth. Charlie Moore drew a bases loaded walk with one out, but Denny got out of the inning by striking out Cecil Cooper and getting Ted Simmons to ground out.

Mike Hargrove drove in a run in the bottom of the sixth for a 4-1 lead. Then, Money homered to
get the Brewers back to within two runs.

Hargrove knocked in another Clevelan run with a sacrifice fly in the seventh. Thornton struck again with a single off Doug Jones (yes, that Doug Jones). Dan Spillner pitched the final two innings for Cleveland and the Indians won 6-2.

The loss drops Milwaukee's record to 3-2. They were still in first in the AL East after the loss.

The April 15 starting pitching matchup at Cleveland Municipal Stadium is Mike Caldwell for the Brewers against Bert Blyleven for Cleveland.
