Brewers: April 18, 1982

The '82 Brewers were still without Robin Yount in their starting lineup on April 18, 1982 and they would lose their fifth straight game. The Rangers beat them at County Stadium 9-6.

Texas scored three times in the top of the first inning off Pete Vuckovich.

The Brewers got two runs in the bottom of the second. Gorman Thomas walked and Ben Oglivie homered against Rick Honeycutt.

But, the Rangers scored twice in the top of the third. Mike Richardt doubled in both runs after a Done Money error kept the inning alive.

Oglivie drove in another run with a double in the fifth and Money drove in two with a single in the bottom of the seventh to tie the game 5-5.

However, Vuke walked Richardt to start the eighth inning. Doug Jones (yes, that Doug Jones) entered and eventually allowed Richardt to score on a single by Doug Flynn. Then, Jamie Easterly came on and gave up a three run home run to George Wright and Texas had a 9-5 lead.

Robin pinch hit in the bottom of the eighth and drove in a run with a double. But, that was as close as the Brewers would get.

The loss dropped the Crew to 3-6 and into sixth place in the AL East. They are still only 1.5 games behind the Tigers and Indians.

The schedule at retrosheet doesn't have the '82 Brewers playing again until April 21. Either the game against Texas on the 19th was rained out and there was a scheduled off day on the 20th or the off day was the 19th and the game against Toronto on the 20th was rained out. Not sure which, but the '82 Crew have two days to think about their five game losing streak.
