Mariners: April 15, 1997

They trailed 3-2 heading into the top of the eighth inning. Orel Hershiser had scattered eight hits over seven innings and turned it over to Paul Assenmacher for the eighth.

Assenmacher's job was to retire Ken Griffey. Instead, he walked Griffey. In came Mike Jackson, who struck out Edgar Martinez, but walked Jay Buhner. Then. Paul Sorrento doubled in both runners and the M's had a 4-3 lead. Brent Gates followed with another RBI double. Russ Davis drew the third walk of the inning and Jackson left in favor of Paul Shuey.

Dan Wilson greeted Shuey with an RBI single. Later in the inning, Alex Rodriguez singled in the final run of the inning and the M's were up 7-3.

In the bottom of the seventh, Bob Wells gave up a lead off home run to Sandy Alomar. But, Norm Charlton replaced Wells and finished off the Indians in the eighth.

Seattle got another run in the top of the ninth when Sorrento knocked in Martinez with a single. Sorrento was 5-for-5 with four RBI in the game.
