ABOUT MONDAY: The Timber Rattlers defeated the Quad Cities River Bandits 9-5 at Modern Woodmen Park. Wisconsin banged out 15 hits in the game to set a season high for a single game. The win allowed the Rattlers to end their six-game road trip to Burlington and Quad Cities at 2-4.

THREE IS A MAGIC NUMBER: D’Vontrey Richardson, Pete Fatse, and Joey Paciorek each collected three hits in the game on Monday. Richardson tripled once and singled twice. Both Fatse and Paciorek had two doubles and a single.

TWO IS A NICE NUMBER, TOO: Richardson, Khris Davis, Chris Dennis, and Sean Halton each drove in pair of runs yesterday.

ON THE EDGE: The River Bandits loaded the bases with no outs in the fourth and fifth innings against Wisconsin starter Nick Bucci. Quad Cities managed one run out of both situatuations. Bucci pitched 4-1/3 innings allowed four hits and walked five, but only gave up one run.

THAT’S A RELIEF: Andre Lamontagne came on for Bucci after a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the fifth cut the Wisconsin lead to 5-1. Lamontagne walked the first batter he faced to reload the bases, but a 6-4-3 double play ended the fifth. Lamontagne also pitched a scoreless sixth picked up his first Midwest League win.

THANKS FOR THE OFFENSE: The Rattlers scored twice in the second, three times in the fourth, and four times in the sixth to build a 9-1 lead.

TWO DAYS STRAIGHT: Dennis hit a home run in the top of the sixth. He has homered in two straight games and has a total of four home runs this season.

SIX DAYS STRAIGHT: Davis had at least one hit in all six games of the just completed road trip. Davis went 12-for-28 (.429) on the trip.

YOUR FACT OF THE DAY: The Timber Rattlers went 65-for-217 (.300) on their road trip through Iowa.

ABOUT THE OPPONENTS: The Cedar Rapids Kernels are the Midwest League affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. In 2009, the Kernels went 72-66 and made the playoffs. Cedar Rapids was 40-30 in the first half and won the Western Division Wild Card. They swept Peoria in the first round of the playoffs, but lost in three games in the Western Division Championship Series to Burlington. The Kernels are 6-6 to start the year. In their most recent series, Cedar Rapids took two out of three from the Cougars at Kane County.

2009 SEASON SERIES: Wisconsin went 5-10 against the Kernels in 2009. The Rattlers were 1-6 against the Kernels at Time Warner Cable Field last year.

COMPARE AND CONTRAST: The Timber Rattlers are hitting .278 as a team. They have scored 64 runs (5.3/game) and hit 7 home runs. The Kernels are hitting .257 as a team. They have scored 57 runs (4.8/game) and hit one home run. Wisconsin pitchers have a team ERA of 4.23 while allowing a total of 65 runs (5.4/game) this season. Cedar Rapids pitchers have a team ERA of 2.95 while allowing 43 runs (3.6/game). The Timber Rattler defense has committed 24 errors. The Kernels defense has committed 10 errors. Wisconsin is 3-3 at Time Warner Cable Field this season. Cedar Rapids is 2-4 on the road this season.

PROSPECTING: Baseball America’s Prospect Handbook placed 10 members of the current Cedar Rapids roster on their list of Top 30 prospects in the Angels organization. There are five members of Baseball America’s Top 10 in the Angels system on the Cedar Rapids roster. Outfielder Mike Trout is #4 on the list. Other players in the Top 30 are: Pitchers Garrett Richards (#5), Fabio Martinez (#6), and Tyler Skaggs (#8); and outfielder Randal Grichuk (#7). Also on the list are pitcher Pat Corbin (#12), infielder Jean Segura (#13), pitcher Tyler Kehrer (#18), pitcher Jon Bachanov (#19), and Carlos Ramirez (#20).

CEDAR RAPIDS STARTING PITCHER: LHP Patrick Corbin was the 2nd round pick of the Angels in the 2009 draft out of Chipola (FL) Community College. Last season with Orem in the Pioneer League, Corbin was 4-2 with a 5.05ERA in 13 games (12 starts). He struck out 46 in 46-1/3 innings. He is 2-0 in two starts with a 2.08ERA for the Kernels in 2010. In his last start, Corbin allowed two runs on three hits over seven innings against Peoria on April 15. Tonight is his first appearance against the Timber Rattlers. Corbin has faced a Brewers affiliate one time in his career. On August 14, 2009, Corbin went four innings and allowed four runs (two earned) on five hits with two walks and one strikeout in a start against Helena. Corbin was not involved in the decision.
