Whatever Happened To Casey Abrams?

One of the things that I do on the road is take a look at the transactions section of the local Sports Pages.

Today in the QC Times I came across this:

BASEBALL
FRONTIER LEAGUE
EVANSVILLE OTTERS -- Agreed to terms with LHP Matt Restivo. Released OF Josh Stewart, 1B-OF Tim Burgess and LHP Casey Abrams.

That last name is former Timber Rattler pitcher Casey Abrams. Casey pitched for the Rattlers in 2004 and 2005. He had a great arm, but he also had control issues. Every once in awhile he would show a flash of what he could be. But, the Mariners cut him loose after the first half last season because the bad outings surpassed the good innings.

Casey caught on with the Otters in the Frontier League but he was 0-2 in four starts with a 6.75ERA. In 21-1/3 innings he allowed seventeen hits, walked ten, and hit four. In the independent leagues, they don't wait around for someone to find himself. Even if Evansville is less than 25 games into their season, they will go out and find somebody else if they feel you aren't doing the job.

I have always and will always say this about Casey. He always took the ball. He never complained. He always went out there and gave it his best effort.

Good luck, Casey.
