Midwest League Championship Series Preview UPDATED

The Kane County Chronicle has a quick story about the MWL Championship Series between the Kane County Cougars and the West Michigan Whitecaps. There are different viewpoints from the Cougars. First there is this:

"They're a good team, but I think we're a better team," Cougars outfielder Matt Sulentic said. "We'll come out and play them with everything we have and I'm confident we'll come out on top. Hopefully we'll come out and take the first two and make it a short series at their place. That's what our goal is."

Then, there is this:

"They've got a great hitting team," Cougars pitcher John Herrera said. "It's going to be tough. It's not going to be easy. We're going to go out there and do our job and take it from there."
Nothing at Mlive.com in the Grand Rapids Press yet today. If there is something later today, this post will be updated.

I'm 3-3 for picks in the playoffs. For the tiebreaker, the pick is the Whitecaps in four games.

Game One pitching matchup is Ben Jukich for the Cougars against Burke Badenhop for the Whitecaps. Game time is 6:30pm at Elfstrom Stadium. Game Two is also at 6:30pm at Kane County. Game Three and (if necessary) Four, and Five are at West Michigan.

UPDATE: Get this, Caps confident heading into finals. Ya think?

"It would be great," [Manager Matt] Walbeck said. "I really have that feeling that we're going to finish it off and get it done. I'm not predicting anything. It's just that we're very confident right now. We're playing our best baseball all year."

...

"It's all you can ask for," team captain and shortstop Michael Hollimon said of playing for the league championship. "You have to believe you're going to win. In the playoffs, it's all about the team that's the hottest. We're a team that accepts a challenge. We're playing our best baseball of the year right now.

By the way, this is a rematch of the 2004 MWL Championship Series. The Whitecaps won that series in five games.

The MILB.com previe is HERE.

The teams split eight games in the regular season. The Caps were 3-1 at Fifth Third Ballpark. The Cougars were 3-1 at Elfstrom Stadium.
