Game Notes for 7/29

ABOUT LAST NIGHT: The Rattlers lost 2-0 to the Snappers. Yohan Pino and Eddie Morlan combined on a three-hit shutout of Wisconsin. Jose Leger and Eli Tintor drove in the runs for the Snappers. Wisconsin did not get a runner past first base in the game.

K to BB: Pino and Morlan struck out eleven Rattler hitters last night without walking a batter. Pino struck out four in six innings. Morlan had seven strikeouts over the final three innings.

HEY, NINETEEN: Chris Minaker singled to start the game last night. Pino retired the next eighteen batters in a row. Morlan got the first batter of the top of the seventh inning before Ron Garth singled. That was a streak of nineteen straight batters retired by the Snapper duo.

SHUTOUT: Last night was the eleventh time the Rattlers have been shutout this season. It was the fourth time in the month of July the Wisconsin has been held without a run.

TOUGH START TO THE NIGHT: David Asher was the starting pitcher for the Rattlers last night. He was sitting in the Wisconsin dugout after warming up in the bullpen. A line drive into the dugout hit Asher on his left forearm. The lefty pitched the first inning and gave up one hit without a run, but left when his forearm tightened on him during the top of the second inning. It is not believed that Asher will miss his next start.

PRESSED INTO SERVICE: Lance Beus relieved Asher in the top of the second inning. He pitched four innings to match the longest relief outing of the season for the Rattlers. Beus allowed one run on three hits and was tagged with a loss in his third straight appearance.

MULTI-BALL: Minaker singled twice last night; once in the first and once in the ninth.

END OF THE GOPHER STREAK: The Rattlers did not allow a home run last night. That snapped a streak of nine straight games an opponent had hit a homer against Wisconsin. There were thirteen homers hit during the streak.

OPPOSING STARTING PITCHER: Oswaldo Sosa was signed as a non-drafted free agent in July, 2002 by the Twins out of Venezuela. Sosa was 6-5 with an ERA of 4.95 for Elizabethton in the Appalachian League in 2005. Sosa beat the Burlington Bees at Community Field in his last start. On July 24, Sosa pitched six shutout innings, allowed two hits, walked one, and struck out eight for the victory. The Rattlers beat Sosa at Pohlman Field on April 10 in his Midwest League debut. Wisconsin scored four runs (two earned) on eight hits over five innings.
