Roster Moves

No, not Rattler roster moves.

I'm talking about roster moves that really took me by surprise on two of my favorite shows that happened in their season finales this week. (Note: These may have been written about on-line before the episodes, but I stay away from spoilers. Besides, like I have time to follow that stuff)
SPOILERS IN CASE YOU HAVEN'T HAD A CHANCE TO DOWNLOAD YOUR DVR

Jamey Sheridan as Captain Jimmy Deakins

Law & Order: Criminal Intent: Jamey Sheridan is out as Captain Jimmy Deakins. He was a perfect superior for Goren & Eames. Giving the brilliant but unorthodox Goren enough space to let him do what Goren does. Deakins would also run inteference for or crackdown on his duo when he had to do it.

Last season, he brought Mike Logan (Chris Noth) into the major case squad. Logan, one of the original detectives on Law & Order, had been exiled away from Manhattan after punching a city councilman in the season five episode Pride. The shows with Logan and Barek (Annabella Sciorra) have been interesting and have punched up the formula of CI.

The seeds of this departure were sown back in the season four episode My Good Name. Deakins helped to take down a former Chief of Detectives for murder and Deakins was set up for revenge.

I have always liked Sheridan. He was great as a Philadelphia lawyer in the very short-lived series Shannon's Deal. I am a bit wary to see who will be taking over his spot as the captain in MCS, but it will be worth watching in the fall.

ADA Alexandra Borgia (Annie Parisse)

Law & Order: Annie Parisse is out as ADA Alexandra Borgia. Out. Permanently. They haven't killed off a major character in the line of duty since the start of season two when Max Greevey (George Dzunda) was killed off in the episode Confession.

ADA Claire Kincaid (Jill Hennessey) was killed by a drunk driver in an accident at the end of the Aftershock.

I knew something was up when we saw Borgia heading in her apartment. The rule on Law & Order is that if you see the apartment of one of the main characters it is a pretty bad thing is either going on or about to happen. They could have found a better way to write her out of the show than to have her found in the trunk of a car gagged by duct tape.

Here are the other ways they wrote Jack McCoy's ADAs out of the show:

Claire Kincaid -- See above
Jamie Ross -- Left to get married
Abby Carmichael -- Left for a job with the Justice Department
Serena Southerlyn -- Fired. Got off the most unintentionally funny lines in the history of L&O.
Alexandra Borgia -- See above

Those are the roster moves. I'll check on the draft and see who the players to be named later will be.

Time to get the book filled out for tonight's game.
