April 19, 2009 Game Notes

ABOUT LAST NIGHT: The Clinton LumberKings defeated the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers 4-1. Aaron Pribanic allowed one run over 6-2/3 innings for the win.

ONE BAD STEP: Rattler starting pitcher Cody Adams struck out seven and walked just one batter over five innings. He allowed three runs on five hits. All three runs and three of the five hits came in the third inning.

ANATOMY OF A RALLY: Adams hit Maximo Mendez with one out and none on in the third. Mendez stole second and scored on a single by Denny Almonte. Luis Nunez singled on a hit-and-run to put runners on first and third. Scott Savastano singled to drive in Almonte. The final run of the inning scored on a sacrifice fly by Nate Tenbrink.

PRIBANIC’S ELEVEN: The Clinton starter walked Rattler DH John Delaney with two outs in the third inning. He would retire the next 11 batters he faced.

ANOTHER TRIPLE? Kalian Sams tripled in a run in the bottom of the sixth inning to give the LumberKings a 4-0 lead. Clinton has four triples in the first three games of this series and eight triples in the first nine games of the season.

END OF THE LINE: Michael Vass doubled with two outs in the seventh to break Pribanic’s string of 11 in a row.

GETTING ONE: Rattler catcher Corey Kemp singled with two outs in the seventh to drive in Vass.

CONGRATULATIONS, I GUESS: LumberKing reliever Ruben Flores struck out the side in order in the top of the ninth to pick up the save. The former Timber Rattler picked up his first professional save with those three strikeouts.

SIX PACK: The loss was the sixth in a row for the Timber Rattlers.

WAITING ON THE OFFENSE: In the six losses the Timber Rattlers have scored a total of nine runs.

A COUPLE OF STATS: Wisconsin hitters are 14-for-75 (.187) with runners in scoring position. Rattler batters are 4-for-37 (.108) with runners in scoring position and two outs.

CLINTON STARTING PITCHER: RH Kenn Kasparek was Seattle’s 12th round pick in the 2008 draft out of the University of Texas. Kasparek was 4-3 with a 3.76ERA in 15 starts for the Longhorns in 2008. He walked 27 and struck out 76 over 76.2IP. Kasparek split his first pro season between Pulaski and Everett in the Mariner system. He went 5-4 over 15 games (13 starts) and struck out 65 and walked 23 over 52 innings on those two stops. In his first start for Clinton this season, Kasparek allowed three runs on five hits over three innings for a loss against the Cedar Rapids Kernels on April 14. Tonight is Kasparek’s first appearance against the Rattlers and against an affiliate of the Milwaukee Brewers.
