May 23, 2009: Game Notes

ABOUT LAST NIGHT: The Timber Rattlers lost 6-3 at Kane County. The Cougars scored three runs in the first and single runs in the second and third inning to build a 5-0 lead. Pedro Figueroa pitched seven innings and struck out five for the win. Franklin Hernandez drove in three runs for the Cougars.

AFTER TWO: Rattler starting pitcher Cody Scarpetta struck out the first two batters he faced in the bottom of the first inning. But, he walked Grant Desme, allowed a single to Steve Kleen, and a two-run double to Hernandez. Jeremy Barfield followed with an RBI single and the score was 3-0. The Cougars also scored an unearned run in the second inning on a grounder that would have been the third out had it not been for an error earlier in the inning. A pair of two out walks and a single by Juan Nunez in the third inning gave the Cougars their 5-0 advantage.

MISSED OPPORTUNITY: The Rattlers loaded the bases with one out in the top of the second inning on a pair of singles and a walk. But, Figueroa got a strikeout and a ground out to get out of the inning.

TWO OUT BINGO: Wisconsin got a pair of runs on two-out hits in the top of the fourth inning. Michael Vass doubled in the first run and scored on a single by Michael Marseco.

CUTTING INTO THE LEAD: Kris Miller tripled in the top of the fifth and scored on a Jose Duran RBI grounder to get Wisconsin to within 5-3. But, Figueroa would not allow another base runner.

LAST GASP: In the eighth, Duran and Brock Kjeldgaard singled with one out against reliever Justin Murray. Murray got the next batter to ground into an inning ending 6-4-3 double play. The Rattlers went down 1-2-3 in the top of the ninth against Mickey Storey.
