Midwest League Action: Games of May 22, 2009

Complete scoreboard

@Kane County 6, Wisconsin 3: Rattlers version

Fort Wayne 13, @Beloit 7: After collecting five victories during a crucial 10-game road trip, the Beloit Snappers returned to Pohlman Field hoping to build momentum. But the return to the Stateline hasn't proved fruitful for the Snappers, who dropped a 13-7 decision on Friday to Fort Wayne. The loss was the Snappers' seventh in their past nine games.

@Clinton 6, Lansing 4: Catcher Travis Howell provided a key offensive boost for his batterymate with a two-run home run into the Lumber Lounge that erased a 2-1 deficit.

South Bend 4, @Burlington 2: "He did a great job," Bees manager Jim Gabella said. "We have been swinging the bats really well -- when somebody comes in and throws eight quality innings you just have to give him credit."

West Michigan 14, @Peoria 4: After Peoria cut the deficit to 5-4, the Whitecaps scored nine runs off relievers Erik Hamren and Chris Seigfried. Billy Nowlin hit a solo home run to start the inning and then doubled in three runs.

@Cedar Rapids 6, Great Lakes 1:
A few minutes after Friday night's 6-1 victory over Great Lakes at Memorial Stadium, longtime Cedar Rapids Kernels batboy Jon Teig walked into the middle of the Kernels' clubhouse.

The entire team, coaching staff, Los Angeles Angels General Manager Tony Reagins and farm director Abe Flores immediately surround him in anticipation. With everyone gathered, pitching coach Brandon Emanuel finally says "Go ahead, Jon-Jon."

Dayton 9, @Quad Cities 5: The standing ovation dripped with sarcasm.*

*-And here is Steve Batterson's first entry in Lede of the Year.
