Twenty-three-year-old Red Sox pitcher Roger Clemens strikes out 20 batters in a 3-1 win over Seattle‚ breaking the ML record of 19 shared by Nolan RyanSteve Carlton‚ and Tom Seaver. Clemens doesn't walk a batter‚ allows just 3 hits‚ and ties the AL record (Ryan and Davis) with 8 consecutive strikeouts in the middle innings.

Gorman Thomas had one of the three hits for Seattle and hit a home run off Clemens for the only Mariner run. Box score and play-by-play are HERE.
